  • Is X2 THAT Different? (p.2)

I think it's huge, way more than it appears at first blush. A lot of little things, yes, but the whole is more than the sum of its parts and I figure it just feels a lot more... finished, somehow. I mean, there are still things that can certainly be improved (*cough* staff view *cough*) (I really should get that nasty cough checked out) but for now, I'm a pretty happy camper and looking forward to what happens in the next couple of point releases - they've been good to us, those point releases, over the years.

X2 is a huge update but in contrast to X1 we focused on workflow enhancements and major improvements to the fundamentals and backbone of the program, addressing hundreds of longstanding requests and problems. The big top level areas are Automation lanes, editing and rendering improvements, take lanes, editing tools, zoom, snap, Pro channel updates, PC FX Chains, Matrix and realtime preview, UI updates, performance improvements and bug fixes. All these are areas that intersect with at some level with every SONAR user.
I'll put together a more detailed list of all the areas touched from our internal notes once I catch my breath, but for now watch all the videos being put out since they will give you a good idea of the breadth of features.

I can't speak for everyone but I know that this user appreciates that immensely.  It's feeling more refined.

I cant tell you how amazing the workflow changes are in X2 over X1.

I have gone from fiddling about in X1 to full fluency in composing in X2.

Just diving in to the "refinements" has created some creative mojo for me!

Yes.

Finally, something Mooch and I agree on
(until he reads my post here )

Like the original post , it's a big learning curve.

My only other DAW before this was something like pro-tracks
That came with my Digitech GNX4.

Maybe it's just me but does X2 seem
A little more crisp? A little better performance , perhaps
because they have improved the Engine.

Lets face it though , professionals are using these
Programs and making it happen.

you can choose a different DAW for sure , but seems
The big difference is what's offered inside or
It's intended musical use. the platforms
Are basically the same.

So unless you go back to analog stuff , this
Is the choice you have.

A quick update.
Been working pretty much all day and yesterday with X2, definitely noticing the improvements.
Firstly everything is clearer (more HD / sharper text) and things seem to progress more smoothly with fewer clicks (yes I'm a mouse guy, not a keyboard guy) and I'm just generally really digging it.

I read all the opinions of everyone about X2 and I get the idea that we are all looking for the GOLDEN GRAIL when it comes to X2. I see the program as a means to make great music. Really get the sound that I want to hear. X1 was good ,but too many keypad shortcuts. I was looking more at shortcuts then being one with my music. The bakers have made it possible for me to be (almost) one with my music with the way the workflow is built up now.

Everyone has other wishes as far as they think the program should work.

Never fear, It's almost Christmas and maybe you will get a present from the bakers that will put you where you want to be.

+1 from me...

But IS it more stable than X1 or should I wait for a patch or two? Is it worth the risk - even with cloned C-drive - to install-and-go in a money-charging studio?...
