So....Has Cake discontiued any support/upgrades for X1? Is it as stable as it's gonna be? Seems there are a few enhancements/bug fixes left to address. Not ready to jump on the X2 bandwagon after the year long ordeal of trying to smooth out X1.

Even though I've moved over to X2, and would probably never ever use X1 again in my life, I feel that X1 should still be fully supported until X3 is released, which includes providing patches and bug fixes.

I'm sure they will offer support and, you can always get support here in the forum..... but soon, if not already.... X1 is so....yesterday.

But hey.... I haven't even loaded all the patches to my X1 yet.

Highly unlikely...   Sure, it would be ideal.   Unfortunately it's not an ideal world.  X3 could easily be over a year off, and I doubt CW is near big enough to support any previous version with patches, for any period of time.   Then again, how many companies could... or do?

Cakewalk stops supporting products after a new one is released? sorry i am not used to this practice. i am spoiled as a Reason owner where Propellerhead still supports Reason 1.0 owners even though we are on Reason 6.5 and I bought Live a few months ago and I am not sure about their support though my current experiences with their support has not been so good. Cakewalk support isn't much better but at least they speak good english with Abelton its a toss up you can tell many of them don't speak native english.

Of course they still support the product, they just do not release new patches or updates for it.

They should have FIXED X1 Exp D before they forced all to early adopt just to get some of the Bug fixes that should have been fixed prior to the new release. I've been unable to Fastbounce timecode plugins. Sucks when you stack and tune as many BGs as I like to do. Now if you want the fixes that should have been in X1, you have to EARLY ADOPT and deal with all of the NEW X2 Bugs and STILL Wait for a patch for that just to get some of the X1 bugs squashed. I'm looking to crossgrade after 10+ years with Sonar.

Here we go again. This comes up every year; to an extent, it's a legitimate gripe - if there are glaring bugs that really are bugs, not just someone's idea of a workflow that should be different than it is, it would be nice if they released a patch. However in practise it's not really very feasible, for a number of reasons:

1) many of the 'fixes' that roll out in the new version involve large-scale changes to the codebase, and they are likely interdependent to a degree with new features as well, which can't be 'rolled into' the previous version without making it, well, the new version.

2) CW is not a large company and they have to devote their limited resources to continued development on the new version. They are hardly alone in this, and it's silly to pretend that every other company of that size is releasing point upgrades or service packs for previous versions. When was the last time Propellerheads released a point upgrade for a previous version, let alone version 1? Come on.

3) what does 'Fix' mean? They should have 'Fixed' your particular version of X1 before moving on? Does 'fixed' mean no bugs of any kind? Great, call me in 2377 when they nab the last one, and we can proudly proclaim that CW has produced the first completely bug-free program in the history of software.

Or does 'Fix' mean fixing the one particular thing that happens to bother you? What about the one that bothers me, or someone else? I wanted the automation copy/paste bug fixed, and it seems to be - in X2 - so I happily plonked down the upgrade fee. I could howl about how they should roll that back to X1, but for reason 1) above that would probably mean rolling automation lanes back to X1, and then they are that much less likely to sell upgrades, stay competitive, and be able to offer actual support for any of their versions.

No, I'm not into tilting at windmills, I'd rather move forward and stay positive. Not to mention that X2 is a huge improvement which I wouldn't want to be without at this stage.

In fact I think, though I'm not sure, that someone dug up one example of CW releasing a point upgrade for (I think) Sonar 4 after 5 was released, but that's the only example I've ever seen.

As stated above, if you're a paying customer of a previous version you are certainly entitled to and should receive support on that product until such time as it is officially announced otherwise, at which point feel free to gripe about that.

Hi Steve, I must admit that I thought, especially now that Roland have bought out Twelve Tone, that the Cakewalk brand was a big mover now, but I've got to know over the last few months that is not the case.

As I type, I'm wondering... there must be something in the small print somewhere that covers this topic?

And you ask how many companies do, and I can only answer that by the "professional" software that I use in my "day job," which is AutoCAD, and that is supported, I think, something like two versions back from the current version. Having said that, the support and bug fixes you get from Autodesk is well known to be dire at best.
