Here we go again. This comes up every year; to an extent, it's a legitimate gripe - if there are glaring bugs that really are bugs, not just someone's idea of a workflow that should be different than it is, it would be nice if they released a patch. However in practise it's not really very feasible, for a number of reasons:
1) many of the 'fixes' that roll out in the new version involve large-scale changes to the codebase, and they are likely interdependent to a degree with new features as well, which can't be 'rolled into' the previous version without making it, well, the new version.
2) CW is not a large company and they have to devote their limited resources to continued development on the new version. They are hardly alone in this, and it's silly to pretend that every other company of that size is releasing point upgrades or service packs for previous versions. When was the last time Propellerheads released a point upgrade for a previous version, let alone version 1? Come on.
3) what does 'Fix' mean? They should have 'Fixed' your particular version of X1 before moving on? Does 'fixed' mean no bugs of any kind? Great, call me in 2377 when they nab the last one, and we can proudly proclaim that CW has produced the first completely bug-free program in the history of software.
Or does 'Fix' mean fixing the one particular thing that happens to bother you? What about the one that bothers me, or someone else? I wanted the automation copy/paste bug fixed, and it seems to be - in X2 - so I happily plonked down the upgrade fee. I could howl about how they should roll that back to X1, but for reason 1) above that would probably mean rolling automation lanes back to X1, and then they are that much less likely to sell upgrades, stay competitive, and be able to offer actual support for any of their versions.
No, I'm not into tilting at windmills, I'd rather move forward and stay positive. Not to mention that X2 is a huge improvement which I wouldn't want to be without at this stage.
In fact I think, though I'm not sure, that someone dug up one example of CW releasing a point upgrade for (I think) Sonar 4 after 5 was released, but that's the only example I've ever seen.
As stated above, if you're a paying customer of a previous version you are certainly entitled to and should receive support on that product until such time as it is officially announced otherwise, at which point feel free to gripe about that.
