I like using 'nudge' for this. On the number keypad, use '8' to nudge notes up and '2' to nudge notes down.
Yeah, that's the way I'm doing it for the time being, but for example going from midi note 16 to midi note 77 is a LOT of key tapping...

Can you not simply change the existing note # to the desired one in the Event Inspector by overtyping it?

This does work - just select the notes you want to change & type in the new note number
