hello/hola

I am using a Toshiba 1.6GHz Satellite Laptop with Windows Vista

I am trying to record straight into HS 6

I am guessing there is something off with my options audio settings as the record button causes an instant crash

any ideas?

thanks!

adding a few things

I have options under drivers to input thru stereo USB mic, which I have selected

then below in output, there is master,  SPDIF Interface as a choice, or conexant mic as a choice...
I have tried both & neither seems to crank up the HS to start recording
is it possibly a buffering setting?
do I also need a external interface?  I am guessing no, and hope not!

in the global options tab
I have the settings @ Record bit depth 16
Render bit depth 32
Import bit depth Original

note: years ago I used a MOTU traveler with firewire out of this laptop & it worked great
hoping to get back to those recording vibes

peace

USB microphones are problematic in SONAR. They almost never give satisfactory performance.
What mic is it?

look at the title of my thread Greg
AT 2020 USB

any other thoughts appreciated

also perhaps you can recommend another software program that may work with my laptop & this mic for recording simple classical guitar tracks

D'oh!
It's right there in the subject.
Try changing the Driver mode in SONAR to MME.

zero stress Greg, I miss stuff often too

I tried all three driver modes and still no luck

it records a short 2 seconds, freezes...

I set the buffer size all the way to the right in safe, that seemed to help a tiny bit, yet unsure

There's a sticky about USB mics on the LE forum. It might be worth checking out.
Those USB mics usually work only with MME drivers, which are the poorest choice there is. You could try the free ASIO4ALL-drivers.

The problem is the mic is a soundcard, so to prevent conflicts you should disable the integgrated soundcard. With an interface you'd surely get better performance.
