• SONAR
  • How to install Rapture! (if you got the DP 1.5 install thingy)

Goto: Start/Run, then type Regedit.

Proceed to key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro

Rename "Dimension Pro" to "Dimension gro" or whatever you like. This is for the x64bit install.

If you have a 32bit install, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro

Make the same change as above. Both changes will need to be made.

Run the Sonar X2 installer. Set the "advanced install." Then click the drop down and select to install the soft synths. Scroll down and uncheck the parent "Soft synths" tree then check the "Rapture" soft synth. Finish install.

Don't forget to go back and rename "Dimension gro" or whatever you named it to "Dimension Pro" again.

For those that don't know. After you run the unzip thing with your X2 downloads. You can go to:

C:users\"your name"\app data\local\temp\Sonar X2

There you will find the folder where the downloads create the installer. Copy this to another location as it will delete itself after you install X2. It does not delete itself if you have to run it again from another location. Why it deletes itself from the location it unzips to is something for a Windows guru to answer.

Hope this helps some of you guys!!!

Someone else posted the workaround, I thought it might be easier to understand this way.

Guitarpima, this your steps may not be sufficient in some cases (they weren't in mine -- I got the steps from the original poster of the workaround).  In particular, you need to add an additional step, which is to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro and make the same "Dimension Pro" to "Dimension Gro" (or whatever) rename *if* the key exists (it may not on some installations -- apparently it depends if the 32-bit version of Dimension Pro has ever been installed on your system, with the steps you provided being sufficient if it has not).  With that additional step, this should work for everyone.

It worked for me. Additionally, I did put that step in. If you had read my entire post, you would have noticed it. Not to mention that I ended my post saying that it was someone else who had the idea. I just thought I would make it easier to understand as a step by step. However, I noticed the that even though I changed the reg key, it did not take for some reason. I changed it again and made sure it took then proceeded to the next step.

I hope you get yours working.

It probably worked for you because you never had the 32-bit version on your system, like lorneyb2 (who posted the original version of what you posted -- he has since added a note in his post with the additional detail I mentioned).  As I mentioned in my response above, I did get it working on my system, but only after adding the step I mentioned above (which, as I understand it, also makes it look like the 32-bit version of Dimension Pro is not installed -- your steps only do that for the 64-bit version, which is fine if that is the only version on your system, but not sufficient if you have, or ever had, the 32-bit version, either instead of the 64-bit version or in addition to the 64-bit version).

My apologies Rick. I took a closer look at the key you posted. An easy mistake for an old blind buffer like me though.

No problem installing Rapture but can't figure out how to install the expansion packs.
I get ' Rapture not installed' error when I try.
Anyone know?

Can I copy the multi samples from a previous working backup & past them in
the folder without major headaches?

I would say yes. Don't hold me to it though. Just remember which files you copied just in case you have to move them out again.
