  • Speed up old tascam cassette recording?

I have recorded the audio from an old 4 track cassette into Sonar onto 4 individual tracks. The old cassette was originally recorded using a Tascam Porta Two 4track recorder at high speed. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the high speed tascam recorder. However, I do have another, older 4track cassette recorder (Tascam Porta One), but it will not play back at the higher speed the cassette was originally recorded on.

I have just recorded these slower-speed tracks into Sonar, and the recording is, of course, "slow motion". I basically need a way in Sonar to speed up the playback so I can hear the originally recorded music in it's correct pitch/speed (ike the vari-speed slider on the Porta Two high speed machine).

Can anyone tell me how to do this, or if this is possible? I would very much like to work with these old recordings.
Thanks in advance!

Install the free software Audacity:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/?lang=us

Export the files from the tape to wav (best 24-Bit)
Load the wavefile(s) from your tape with audacity. It is perfect to pitch or speed up/down tapes from 4,75 > 9,5 or 9,5 > 4,75. Without loss of quality.
Then save the new files and import it into Sonar.
We digitaze thousands of tapes for customers. This is the best and fastest way.

Thanks so much for that information. I just tried out Audacity and it works great for what I described. Really nice of you to share your expertise!

Now I can user Sonar to further enhance my old projects.
