There must be a quick visual way to know there is more than one clip in a track than having the lanes open!!!

If not, I have just lost 80% of the track view.

What am I missing?

Not that I have seen so far. But how could you tell previously using the old track layers?

hi jm.. i dont know if you are missing something but it seems fine to me, with multiple takes but take lanes closed i can see the vertical lines marking clip boundaries and if the clips are large enough, i can see the clip names...

3 takes:  same length

collapsed:  no indication of more than one take
only the last take is displayed.

move takes: the same take is displayed when collapsed

Different lengths: shows parts of all
                             clicking longest hides others

Not happy with this "less cluttered" result.

With layers enabled the collapsed track displayed, in miniture, each layer: quick and easy.

Now another menu, without clear visual clues.

And having to expand all lanes means more screen use.

No, layers are gone in X2.

Well, there were enough clues around the Cakewalk site as to how take lanes were going to look. So why did you bother upgrading to X2? It has been well documented around here too that track layers were being replaced with take lanes.

Looks like you need to keep your fingers crossed that Cakewalk implement an option to use layers or take lanes in the future. There have been a few other similar complaints about this so they may listen to your request.

Aside from the lack of track layers how are you finding X2?

I don't think the problem is lanes, per se, it's that when the lanes aren't visible, there's no clear way to see that there are multiple overlapping clips and/or lanes in the track.  With layers, despite their problems, this was immediately visible when layers were disabled.

So are you simply looking for a visual indication that multiple clips exist on a given track?   If so, I'd certainly "+1" that request.  I doubt layers will be making a return - deprecated features rarely do - but some type of visual feedback without having to expand track lanes first would be convenient.   It's certainly nothing even approaching a show-stopper, for me, but would be a nice thing to have.

As long as track lanes behave in a more logical and consistent fashion in daily use, vs. layers, I'm good.    For now.

There is a visual indication, of sorts, although it doesn't jump out and hit you, and you have to expand the track in order to see it. The button that you press to open the lanes changes colour. I don't know about the take lanes, but the automation lanes button turns blue.
