Sorry for posting in the wrong forum... but a lot of you guys are ex 8.5 users and I thought you could help.

EDIT:
I've had problems with video playback but have succeeded to get vids playing finally... but!
It seems that Sonar 8.5 LE and Sonar 8.5 Producer can play  videos if I add audio content (muted) to an audio track or if I arm an audio track.

Odd.. but... I have no idea why Sonar needs to 'arm a track or have an audio content in order for a video to run..

Hope you guys can help...

Hi, I'm a sound designer and I found that X1 cured alot of my importing .MOV woes from 8.5........

I'm not sure what is going on under the hood but I swear to golly that Sonar tweaked codec support for X1....

as far as a fix, i'm sure you know this but....

Codecs codecs codecs.......

Have you installed a new codec package? Have you updated Media Player or Div X or QTPlayer player recently?

Then theres the myriad of questions.....

What file format are the video files? What frame rate? Whats the dimensions? Will sonar play it in a small size? Can you play the video file in an external media player?

Thanks for replying..

What is odd is that even Homemstudio 9 can open these files too!!

Its just not playing with sonar 8.5  or 8.5 LE.. Really bizarre!!!

I have done searches in google and on the forum .. And noticed its happened to some people.. But alas no answers..

ok...... bizarrley

If I place an audio track and set it on record I can view the videos in 8.5 LE ann 8.5 Producer..

Also if I place an audio clip  and mute it it also plays the videos.

Is there any setting that can be adjusted to avoid the need for an audio track????

Are you sure the bit rates are set correctly for the project and the embedded audio from the video?

Maybe try exporting the audio then deleting the audio and re-importing the exported audio to the video?

You dont have to have an audio track for your video, it can just be deleted.......

Either way, sounds very buggy.

Thanks ...  but this seems to be the only method of getting any type of video playing in Sonar 8.5. Wierd!!!

It must be connected to how video and audio are linked together in Sonar 8.5..

Just out of interest....

its funny how different codecs have  a direct influence on Sonar...

I had a DIVX codec installed and Sonar and WMP would refuse to open an avi format file...  got  rid of DIVX Codex  and now it opens.

I wonder if video editing programs such as Serif MoviePlus interefere with Sonar's 8.5 ability play videos???

you can adjust the order in which codecs are used in windows....

heres a useful tool.

Thanks for that - that will prove to be useful....... - thanks markyzno - really appreciate your efforts and insight.

I think I may have solved it....     seems my Normal file is either corrupt or that there is a setting that does not allow video to be played...

V Bizarre ....... so my final question to all ye good folk

is there a setting that I can change to get video playing again... don't won't to redo my normal template..
