When I choose clip volume automation from the track menu or the tools hud Volume envelopes are added to all of the clips in the track. Even though I have only selected one clip.
Any idea what I am doing wrong? I have sonar x 1 with all of the updates.

This is intended behavior.  Edit Filters set what the whole track allows you to edit at one time.

Hi Bill - how do I edit the volume of an audio clip on a track with out applying volume envelopes to all of the clips on the track?

When you change the edit filter to clip envelopes an envelope initially appears on all clips. An envelope doesn't come into existance until an edit has been made on it. 

Once you've edited one clip and you change the filter again the clip envelope from unedited clips will disappear.
