Specifically with respect to the Smart tool in the Track View - it seems to be X1-appropriate.

Where did you find the SONAR.CHM. On my installation help is in html. And anyone know where to find the pdf manual?

The manual is in the Read_This_First.EXE!

OK, I found an option in Edit-Preferences -> File -> Advanced "Always Use Offline Help".  Maybe "online" help will be more up-to-date. The Read_this_first looked to me like a very brief get-started.

thats only a starter manual of 54 pages not the full reference guide. I hope its not part of the installer. Still downloading but I'pm not going to do an install just to get the reference guide.

i hope that it (the reference Guide) gets extracted out as a seperate file from the *.bin installation files

SONAR.chm is the full manual (as opposed to the User Guide which is a slimmer introduction and, yes, is in the read_me_first.exe).

It is located in program_files/Cakewalk/Sonar X2 {version}/ and perhaps it has been superceded by the html version? I hope not - what about non-internet connected DAWs?

The HTML comes up when you press F1 from within the SONAR X2 main window, but I think it is directed to a web site on the cakewalk web server.

Also, I was confused between SONAR.CHM and SONAR_X1_Reference_Guide_EN.pdf, which does not appear to be included in the download. So perhaps the online HTML version is replacing the PDF? I know some folks like to print the PDF out in order to get a "printed manual".

Oops, I missed this. Thanks, that's helpful, and answers the offline-daw issue. I'm sure they'll be a help file update at some point, probably in the first point release.

Since Win 7, (or VISTA) *.chm files are no longer being used for help files. You have to download the old chm program files from Microsoft if you need to use a Help file made in the old chm format.

Current help files are html documents for offline viewing.
The SONAR Reference Guide (don't know where that is yet as I'm still downloading part 2 of the SONAR X2 installer) is usually a pdf and has the same content as the help file but not context sensitive ie not accessible from within the different parts of SONAR.

Wish I knew where that file was?

SONAR X2 Documentation currently comes in two flavors. The version hosted on our site here: http://www.cakewalk.com/documentation

This comes up by default when pressing F1.

This is completely new to X2 and our website as of today. If you guys see any weirdness with the doc, would like to see a section expanded upon, or even if you just found something helpful, you can submit feedback directly to us now so we can turn things around much faster. You can also more easily share topics with others as long as they have an internet connection. Lastly, if the doc isn't translated into your native language, you can take advantage of the Google Translate script present on the page. It might not provide a perfect translation, but hopefully it will help some folks who don't speak the languages we typically translate to as well as their own.

The other flavor is the standard .chm version that you're all probably very used to. You can get to by going to Start > All Programs > Cakewalk > SONAR X2 > SONAR X2 Help.chm. As mentioned above, you can also toggle the "Always use offline help" setting under Edit > Preferences > File > Advanced if you wish F1 to bring you to the .chm instead of our website.

Another big advantage of the offline-style help is that it can stay on top of the Sonar window.
