I can't tell you how many times I have used those very words, myself.  This is a good example of a modern rock/pop classic.  I look forward to hearing this song several more times, as it's right up my alley.

I'd be tempted to fatten up the little guitar break/licks at :16 and about 1:17 and 3:55 to the end. it sounds a bit like a chicken. Lol maybe that's the point? It pulls me out of the intense vibe that was going so well.

Haha!... never thought about that... yeah, I guess it does sound a bit like a chicken!  Well spotted!...  
 
Yeah, from an arrangement/songwriting angle, the aim of that part was to be provide both an instrumental hook for the verse & a sparse contrast/counterpoint to the "wall of sound" intensity happening in the choruses - I also wanted it to be a bit off-kilter & quirky - just like a chicken, I guess .
