yea this was a real rocker...mix was killer...vox done very very well...love the overall arrangement. If I were a producer-type and were more interested in sales then artistic value, I'd tend to want to nix the 3 lil guitar parts as I think it takes away more than it brings to song overall. Please dont get me wrong, I write & produce just the opposite most of the time because I love not being boxed in....so I totally "get it". In the same vain I'd have you rethink the lead....and suggest that you got some killer licks in there and ask yourself does the quirkiness (the odd flow) of the lead add more than it takes away? The strength of this tune (with my production hat on) is that rollin down the road rock sound...the two pieces above kinda got me side-tracked. With all the above said this is one hell'of'a'tune! And you have some great talent in the booth and on the deck....great work!
Thanks for the share!
Hey Tom, thanks for such a well thought out critique! I do agree, those are great questions to ask from a producing POV.
I think (in my mind at least) the tune started out more quirky than it ended up sounding. I was looking to the solos etc to inject some of that originality and quirkiness back into the sound, but it may be that I had already created the expectation of a more pop orientation with the production decisions I made, and I ended up shooting myself in the foot somewhat.
Thanks again for the listen and comment!
