Here is a new one that is actually one I recovered from my last DAW before it died (using Sonar 5). I had originally written it with a vocalist in mind, but things never worked out to get the project completed. I restructured the song to make it work as an instrumental and updated the instruments where appropriate.

It is the first song in the links in my signature below or at: https://soundcloud.com/dcumpian

Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Hope you enjoy!

Dan

Link not working due to HB bug....I hope they get that cleared up soon. I'll keep trying.

I finally got on- Nice mix! I have always been a stickler for those older moog type sounds. They make great solo instruments. I liked the energy that this song has. The drums keep the whole thing interesting all the way through. It does sound a little dated but I like it a lot.
Let me know if you want a male vox on it. I would be willing to try it. What did you have in mind for vox? Any lyrics? I hear a kind of Styx vibe going on with it and I loved Styx.

Sonar 5 was a terrific platform for me, and you did a fine job of updating this piece.  The melody and chord progression are cool and sophisticated, and the bass and drums are very punchy.  When I first saw that this song was 6 minutes, I thought, oh boy...I hope this doesn't get bogged down.  It never does.  It's so well arranged and performed that it kept my attention to the end.  Kudos to you, Dan!

It is a deliberately retro song. Definitely written with the 70's/80's in mind. The singing style we were working towards was more of the Michael Sadler style (Saga). This song is a mishmash of Styx, Rush, Saga and Blacklab, lol.

Yep, this is longer than even my last one, lol. I had to get these "prog" songs out of my system. Thanks for the comments on the progressions, bass and drums. While the bass was a fairly easy part to play, the drums were a lot of work. There are also about 12 tracks of guitars, some old, some new. Overall, it was a big project.

Glad it kept you interested all the way!

Very nicely done Dan and a really nice arrangement. Makes me think of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Stix and Trans- Siberian Orchestra. Holds your attention all the way to the end. The middle part seem to be a bit congested with the instrumentation, but I'm listening on my HD headphones so that maybe the problem. With all the guitar tracks its hard to distinguish each track in the middle. Great drums for this piece thought and sound like a moog synth. Some great sounds going on in this entire piece. Very nice work, enjoyed!!

Peace and Blessings, John
