It's a short 1 min tune, supposed to enter into a contest, but pulled out due to the terms and conditions. Done with Session Horns, Scarbee MM Bass, Funk Guitarist, AAS Lounge Lizard and BFD3. Some snare layering using Sonar SI-Drum and Dim Pro (a quick way to add a few crash).

Do comment on the mix. Do you think the bass is too loud ? ..I do like it to sound louder here, tried to mix it softer but I can't hear some notes clearly.

Cheers!

Good vibe to it. To my ears it does need a little brightness on the bass and drums (mainly the bass drum), they sound a bit flat. the horns and gt, I dont have any probs with.

Good job.

I too like that groove. Mix is all very up front, but maybe that's what you were trying to achieve. I felt like I was in the studio with the band.

Cool tune!

I agree with Gus though, that the drums are a bit muddy and could use some sheen.  Otherwise this sounds pretty good for a first song!

Thanks dpronk, I was jamming around with the bass and a drum pattern first, so the song got started once I got some groove with the bass line.

Thanks Gus. I've checked my EQ and sure enough, I applied a little hi cut on both the drums stereo track and also the drums bus. Overall, the BFD3 hi hat and snare sounded a little bright and I wanted to cut it down a little, but ended up applying the EQ on the whole drums.

Still learning the new BFD3 and I've got problem figuring out how to split individual tracks into Sonar tracks separately. Due to the competition deadline (which I pulled out later) I've just use the BFD3 stereo output to mix the drums. Just downloaded the BFD3 manual and gonna dig in :)

Thanks Rebel. I just pan the guitar a little left, keys a little right. I wasn't aiming on a specific mix scenario. I suppose the Session Horns gives that impression, using the smart voice split ?

I actually pick up the tips from Sharke on this thread :

Thanks SteveC. Yeap.. found the problem with the muddy drums and learning the best way to use BFD3 - to use the internal BFD3 effects or to split all BFD3 tracks out into separate Sonar tracks for further processing.

This is not my first song, but rather first post to the song section :)

Been applying great tips I've learned from the forum on my other previous tunes. I'll post my older tunes more once I've polished up the mixing too.

At least the bass is not out of tune.
