Shoe Gaze already described but perhaps not well enough. It's essentially stoner music. Usually mind freaker stuff but mellow enough to just make you look at your shoes.
 
Nerd rock is likely referring to bands like Weezer. The "uncool" hip of the late 90's/early 2000's that were kind of post grunge/pre full on "hipster" movement.
 
Now "Dork Metal"... who the frack knows? The freak that invented that is a sick and twisted individual.

BTW... I believe early Queens of the Stone Age (due to their long, meandering but interesting musical interludes) and their contemporaries is considered Shoe Gaze...
 
But it's not necessarily limited to stoner rock. Just not that harsh ecstasy/designer drug type electronica.
 
More organic drugs and sounds. Mostly pot and shrooms.
