I guess the answer is DON'T! My download was going to take over 12 hours for a 1.9GB file with a 100mbps connection. I went to another computer on the same network and used Firefox and downloaded from Cake's "Other" download site, not the USA one, and it took 27 minutes for the same file. I heard some talk of a download manager but my search of this site brought "no results". Steve

Ya mine was a mess too.
Download was pretty much 1mb/sec (this is very slow for my standards).
Most of the packages were corrputed the first time I downloaded them and I wasn't able to unzip them properly.
Well...downloaded the Sonar X2 installer 3 times until it (finally) worked.
Still need to download the loops and one shots package again because after the 3rd try on part3 I still wasn't able to get a uncorrupted download.
Pissed me off pretty much actually...

i think the improved d/l speeds is more a function of the "other site" than IE.. i simply started the d/l of them all and went out.. 15GB takes a while

I used I.E. That is not the bottleneck, if there is one.  I've downloaded the same file in both I.E. and Firefox and they both took the same amount of time.

There can be (and is) differences in how fast a web page loads in a browser, but downloading speed is not a browser issue.

It could be any or all of the following, really:
 
1) Too many people d/lng from the same site at the same time.
2) The network connection port.
3) The network not liking computer 1
4) IE.
5) Computer 1.
6) IE with computer 1.

don't use IE is the answer (seems problematic?)

use firefox or chrome perhaps

copy the address link of the file (right click) in my account then "+" it in FDM's interface at the top left.
it will also do multi-part on files = far quicker than 1 thread

and to check the files aren't corrupt , match them against their checksum.. here's the info on check that  (last post)

There are many variables that can affect download speed.  The PC, the link between your PC and the router or ISP modem, the ISP link, the ISP's links and bandwidth to/from the web, the remote controller that you are downloading from (and its bandwidth and links to the web), the actual web.  You can have a 40 Mb/Sec downlink from your ISP but the download speed will only be the weakest (slowest) link.  You can connect to a remote controller to download and your path through the web can be one path and servers and reconnect again and take different paths and servers to get to you. 

NOTE: no where did I mention any specific browser.  This was intentional as the browser doesn't make a difference on a file transfer (download).

I don't know why but IE nearly always has problems downloading files from Cakewalk, right back to at least Sonar 8. I suspect (from previous threads about this) that the problem may be more pronounced if you're in the UK (or maybe simply outside the USA). It's not just a matter of time but corrupted downloads as well.

IE8/9 (tried both) announced that the complete download would take well over 48 hours, and hung after 3 hours.

Firefox downloaded the files (haven't tried running them yet though, so don't know if they are corrupted or not), with no problem other than taking about 3 times the usual download time for that much data. Sensible explanations a-plenty for that kind of time increase, but not for the IE one. My guess is an IE bug of some sort.

I routinely transfer files in excess of 1GB, and the only sites I have ever found where IE routinely slows to a crawl on file download are Cakewalks. Ditto the corrupted downloads problem. The missing file extensions people are reporting after downloading with IE is
another problem.

Traceroute to the file server indicates no apparent problems with intermediate hops, and IE and Firefox are using the same route.

 then known issue with IE is patch'd ..please update your OS...For best results use FireFox to download ! Windows 8 rootkit patch pending !!
