I actually prefer the older version (1.9.1) of SPAN, if you can find a copy of that. I use it far more often than the newer version (2.1).

There's been an announcement of a new release of SPAN (from a KVR email newsletter that just arrived).  One of the listed enhancements is new interface options (wasn't very specific so I have no information beyond that).  I'll be interested to know if you think the latest version makes SPAN as usable as the 1.9.1 version.

Certainly using a multi-channel analyzer is useful - but, for me, it's quicker to stick my analyzer on the Master Bus and either use SOLOing or MUTEing.

That makes it constant and with less setup.   If I solo more than one track, I get the same result as having to view multiple channels.

So that's just another approach for those who are like-minded.

I hadn't bothered downloading it until today, since the stated changes did not include anything particularly exciting. This was the description from a Voxengo email:

    * Correlation meter values around -1 are now displayed correctly in the "density" mode.
    * Statistics "reset" function now resets statistics of all channels correctly.
    * K-metering modes now use fixed 600ms RMS and release time constants.
    * Additional visual look variation settings added.
    * Underlay color selection was removed - group's defined color is used now.
    * "Hide Meters and Stats" switch added.
    * Spectrum display is now more precise in high-frequency region.

There's a nice new green color scheme to go with all your McDSP plugins. No, I don't have any, either.

While I make Visualizer my default analyzer on my Master Bus, I do like the new Span 2.2 as well.   When I've done a mixdown, I throw it on that track just to get a last look, so to speak.

But it does seem smoother and less CPU hungry as well, Dave.

For the record, that is exactly how I do it as well. I just happened to catch the vid and thought I'd add to the discussion.

Actually, if you watch it, it's a pretty royal PITA to get it working just to have pretty separate analyzer curves. For me a quick A/B with the Solo button tells me right where my conflicts are without having to spend an hour routing it up.

Hey anyone know how to get the new Voxengo SPAN to 'hold' the waveform / frequency line? The old/ original SPAN let you set the line to be held at it's highest position along the frequency spectrum.

So...how do you get it to hold in the new Span?

thanks

Toward the upper left is the hold switch.

Thanks John I'll check that out next I'm spanning something

I see that HOLD button works differently...it holds at the moment you click it and gives a frequency reading at that time. Can it do like the original SPAN...where the frequency line is pushed up and up throughout the song and wherever it settles at it highest points along the spectrum is where it is 'held'...I don't think I have described it very well...anyway that HOLD button doesn't do what I want it to do

I'm not at my DAW, but I think you mean to turn on the 2nd spectrum in the Span options.   Then it draws a 2nd 'line' as you call it above the lower one and it either averages or peaks (part of the settings in the options).
