Wonderfully glorious mistakes and accidents.....

I made some interesting progress as a beginning guitarist when I was playing around with a knife or some other sharp tool and cut my fingers on my fretting hand. Nothing that required stitches, but painful enough that I couldn't fret the strings with certain fingers. In order to keep playing, I had to make some accommodations to how I fretted the chords.... Something that I would probably not have done otherwise.  I still use what I learned back then in my playing now.

Oh yeah been there done that....plus playing with one or two strings missing, always a great way to explore limited chord voicings.

I haven't ever studied with anyone (I do think it's the best way to go), but... I've been watching a lot of Lindsey Buckingham videos lately. I love the way that guy plays, and of course Jeff Beck.
Those guys are probably not the style or technique your thinking of, but this thread made me think of them.

Add Mark Knopfler to that list!

Knopfler is a good one. I love his playing too.

I used to idolize Chet Atkins.  After reading through most of the CG pieces I appreciate the simplicity of his arrangements.  Sometimes we can make things harder than they need to be.

Doesn't Mark Knopler use a technique sort of like this?  That, plus Segovia, puts you in some very good company.
