Zooming out is not the answer. I believe if you've zoomed out to the max  then it should work by shrinking the view horizontally.
Aren't there the +/- magnifying glasses in the low right corner of the view in X1?

I can't see anything preventing however long projects being shown, it's just that it gets too tightly packed to edit or even tell the widest lows from the transients..

+1
I just opened up one of my old projects in X1
Here the trick I found as suggested above

--Lower Right corner-Zoom OUT using the [- Mag Glass] as FAR as it will go.
(You can drag the scroll bar arrow but it will not go but to a certain point.  IF you use the scoll right ARROW by the Zoom out button, it will let you go as far as needed.)  I Stopped checking at like 5.5 hours

I have some live shows i'm trying to edit and would like to zoom out to see the entire show.   Is there a setting that is preventing this?     If I zoom out it stops at about 60 minutes of the ~2 hour show.
It depends on your screen resolution and the size of your monitors. Each person can have different results

Yes the little +/- allows any resolution, to me it seems infinite.

Because Sonar is not a Wave editing program I would recommend using a dedicated wave editor for what you are doing, it will save you time and frustration. Try Wave Lab, Sound Forge or even Audacity.
In Wave lab the entire track is shown in a smaller view at the top. The larger edit screen is easily re-sized to and zoom in and out of.
You do need a certain level of zoom for working efficiently. There is a bar in the track view that shows you where the edit screen is zoomed to.

Have you tried opening Navigator and dragging the right edge all the way to the edge of your project?

vlab
on a 21.5 inch 1680X1050
by taking out:
-browser
- inspector

and minimizing the track properties (leftmost section of track view)

I can see 1:11:00, on X1d

I hope this gives you an idea..

Thanks for all the replies and ideas.   I'll have to get this project done then check into some of the suggested options to use for the following shows.

I'll add to the ideas here. For long shows with a huge list of songs and different artists I tend to create my busses and other things that will be "in common" between the various mixes (like the room sound, master buss FX, etc.) Then I go through and place a marker at the beginning of each song. Once I've done that I can use Clips->Split Clips at Markers and all my splits are done for me. This saves me time since the markers are also there now, and that enables me to quickly move from one song to the next.

At that point if there are multiple artists  I will save a new version of the file for each artist and remove all content not relating to their songs. This just makes it more manageable. Part of the reason I do this is that I use UAD plugins extensively and have limited UAD power (only 2 cores of UAD.)

Regardless of whether you like to create new files I find the feature for splitting at each marker to be VERY handy.

Peace,
