Hi Joe

Generally speaking, it's a modification of a program.

A couple of forum members have created some mods that enable you to change X1's colour scheme, and also a customisable toolbar.

Check out this thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2225095

Welcome to the Cakewalk SONAR forums
There are modifications available that are not official Cakewalk programs. They are made by 2 guys on the forum here and provide additional functionality to SONAR X1.

cakewalk obviously can't endorse their use but know about them and don't actively prevent the programmers from making them and from the user base taking advantage of them

They have however reminded us that as they are not licensed addons and so the programmers can't charge for them. If we use them then we can't expect to get support for the modified program from Cakewalk. For this reason the programmers have made the addons in such a way that they can be easily undone, leaving us with an original intact SONAR installation for which we can get Cakewalk support.

Can I take this opportunity to remind everyone that both Ben and Panup have always stated that should there be any problems with SONAR X1 (the only version for which the mods have been made) that we are to undo the modification so that proper trouble shooting can take place.

Cakewalk have been extremely tolerant considering and Ben and Panup have been very open and generous with their work considering that they can't even ask for a donation.

I think I covered it all for a new member here. If you do some searching on the names Panup or Benstat you'll easily find the mods. I don't think it would be appropriate to put a link in this sticky thread as they are specifically Cakewalk's avenue for communication. we have the rest of the forum for those discussions and where you can easily find the mods.

If a user doesn't know to uninstall all mods before installing and/or evaluating an official X1 update, that user shouldn't be using mods any way.

However, I understand the reason of this thread. Nothing wrong with some illumination. :)

What an environment poor DAW developers must release their heart and soul code into.

Viruses, Spyware, Bad Sectors, Idots, etc...

And now Mods.   <facepalm>

This sticky says an awful lot about what a fair and open company Cakewalk is.

They know that a lot of us are using the mods but there is no attempt to actively discourage their use or to intimate that their use somehow negates our rights to contact Technical Support - they even allow the mod thread to remain here in their forum.

Of course, what Brandon says makes sense, but how cool to do it while acknowledging the use of these mods in a completely affable manner.

There must be a few software vendors around where this definitely wouldn't be the case.

Nice one Cake.

The best thing they could do is support the mods all they can. I think it's cool Sonar has mods, hope that they continue to get better and better. This helps create a more loyal user base for Sonar so Cakewalk should be proud of users like this.

Yes, Very Poor DAW developers. If they weren't so poor, there wouldn't be a need for mods...
