I've created this soundtrack for use as background music for a private role-playing game development project.

Specifically, this theme is intended for use in a lush forested area containing mystical elf-like creatures.

As always I really appreciate all comments (keeping in mind the intended use above), good and especially the ones that may not be so good.  I am looking to improve!

Thanks,

Walt

UPDATE: made a few changes and uploaded a new mix.  Includes:
1. reduced female voices
2. changed out oboe for violins
3. added some drum hits in the relatively "empty" middle section

Walt,

Understand where you are going with the track.   It sets a good mood for your description above.  Not knowing what the game is, or whether there are any suspenseful moments, makes it difficult to fully assess how the track will fit in the game.   I think the only thing lacking in the piece is suspense, which may not be necessary.  It definitely fits your description of "use in a lush forested area containing mystical elf-like creatures"

For better or worse, the trend for musical themes for backgrounds seems to be high-energy, suspenseful, sound effect laden, themes.  If that is the case, you could always add in some NI Damage to your current track to add a bit more of that suspense mojo......  I like the piece as is though and think you have done a fine job with it.

Regards

Sounds appropriate, private role-playing eh  are D&d or some other Sword and Sorcery ?

I am bit loath to say any more as I have just updated my Internet PC to Win 7 64 bit and am having to use the on-board SoundMax sound card which is fundamental £%&P so offering meaningful anything is probably pointless.

Thanks for sharing.

This piece sounds dense and ethereal.  Just what you want in a forest with elves.  It would probably fit right in the next "Hobbit" movie.  I like the sounds you've used and the mix.  You're on to something!

I like it.   The "foresty" vibe is there, the lead instrument changes smoothly over time, and it sounds like a good mix from here.

Hi walt , nice tune and instrumentation, would be nice, imho, if the solo instruments had a bit more space around them so they're  not competing with the choir.

Thanks Mark!  Unfortunately I don't have Komplete Ultimate, so no Damage available.  I just re-listened to the Damage demos and they are pretty awesome.  Thanks for reminding me to upgrade at some point.

Anyway, this track is the "main theme" that will trigger when the player enters the forest zone.  If/when they encounter some sort of danger, a different theme would be triggered (which I've not yet developed).  We're likely to be adding a new "danger/suspense" theme down the road for that purpose, but even without Damage in the arsenal, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to make some big dynamic sounds happen when we get to that point.

Thanks for listening John!  Nothing too crazy, just an online fantasy RPG. :)

Thanks Lynn, you're always looking at the bigger picture.  I'm not so sure Peter Jackson will be ringing my phone any time soon, but I appreciate the comparison. :)

Thanks for the listen Steve. :)  Smooth is what we're going for on this one.
