i am always trying new delay fx vst plug ins looking for the most authentic dub sound. i use them live through Sonar with a softstep floorboard controlling the feedback level. Sounds simple? well it's not in sonar. First I have to setup the fx like it is a synth, that is easy if it's 64 bit but if not I have to run it through Jbridge....then I have to have a midi channel to send the midi in to the fx...then many plug ins don't pick that up anyway ....So has it been sorted in X2? because other hosts don't have this problem

How are these limitations of Sonar?  Everything you described is ether a limitation of function of you plugin's or jBridge.

How do you control an effect without a MIDI channel?  How does Sonar control what your plugins do or do not "pick up"?

The same way other hosts do. I'm no software expert but other hosts seem to be able to see when an fx has a midi in port and respond accordingly. In sonar you have to configure the effect as a synth. Jbridge is only used when a 32 bit fx is used because the built in bitbrige doesn't give me the VST options I get with 64 bit so I can't choose the "configure as Synth" option, which has to be chosen to get an effect working with midi but only sometimes do they work with midi. Same with 64 bit effects except I don't have to use Jbridge but this doesn't always work.
  I am talking about fx plug ins designed to work with midi and they do, but not always in Sonar. their learn functions are not available and none of them can use act, because Sonar requires you to configure them as a synth and not as an effect, which is what they are.
   every time I try another sequencer they don't have this problem, it's plug and play. I have invested a lot into Sonar over the years and have a VS controller sound card. It would be a shame to have to use something else just because things are falling behind on this front but it is definitely a Sonar issue.

i was just hoping they might have sorted it by X2 it seems like they don't have the full VST standard implementation.

Could the reason have anything to do with Sonar only being vst 2.4....not VST3?  What hosts does it work in?

To use midi learn on an fx plug in, you have to configure them as synths. Yes bigboi I reckon you could be right. I am now ploughing through the ACT setup instructions and video to try and get that going, there is just something a bit counter intuitive about it but I am getting there slowly.

I'm not 100% sure I'm following exactly what you're trying to do but if it's control parameters of an effect with a controller...... then connect controller as an ACT surface and control it.

If the controls aren't automatically mapped how you want them use MIDI learn combined with ACT learn to change them.

Yes, I have been watching your video. Very helpful. I've got things working, only thing is it doesn't seem to save my act learn changes for each effect. It saves them until I close Sonar and then when I reopen they are back to their original mappings. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure TBH, the mappings are stored as xml files if you change them from default. You can't save them as such it's automatic.

Run Sonar as an administrator possibly?

Just to be clear we're talking about the ACT learn changes? That's the parmaters assigned to the cells not the controller assigned to the cells. That's MIDI learn that you save as a preset.
