My guess is September 28. I have a recording project on the 29th and I am just gung-ho enough to jump in at the deep end and use X2 for the project.

I am just going to download the basic X2. I got everything else installed already. When my dvd backups arive I am going to reimage my drive and do a fresh install. It is about time to do that anyway.

5 gigs is a big file to download. I don't remember x1 being that big for some reason

@ Silicon I am with you on that !

I just put new hard drives in my system and a fresh install of windows.
I had a think about putting X1 back on the system but decided to just hold out for X2.

Also anyone else have problems downloading the free gift ?

I get a poor net connection here as it is with only 8mbps but I downloaded the strings today and I was only getting 40-55 kbps.....

If its the cakewalk servers giving this speed I will never be able to download it

what time you DL at ? do it out of peak hours or else your provider won't be happy in the UK.. what speeds do you normally get.. doubt it's their servers as it looks like they buy space to deal with the demand.

not sure if there is a DL limit on cakes thing, you might wanna try using free download manager, that way if it's not making the most of your connection (and their servers allow it) you can get another 2+ bits of the same file going at the same time.

I just tested it on a Studio instruments I bought ages ago, works fine. I'd say try that method IF you know your connection is normally far faster.. zero g's is a nightmare as it uses odd buttons that won't allow to save the link.

Wait... 5 GB? That's no problem. I was told to expect 10-15. But maybe that's with all the Suite goodies and other stuff I already have.

@ Fog.

I get a Max of 8mbps because of the area I live in

I pay my provider extra so my connection will not drop below 5mbps and so I don't get any drop outs and it never has since I joined them

It was about 3pm I was downloading at and I did a few speed tests all showing around 8mbps but the download from the cake store was very poor :(

I even stopped the down load at one point and downloaded a 50mb file form another site and it was having no problems at all so I think it must have been the Cake servers....

@beep

Full install of X1 was about 15gb if I recall

I think the minimum was about 5 so that would be without all the big plugs and samples

15GB for everything (at least that is what is in my X1d PE d/l directory). The X1 Producer is in two files of ~5GB, then the Extended stuff was ~350MB.

3pm is when "peak" starts for a lot of companies.. after 11-12 at night is off peak..

since ya up

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

install it, go into your cakewalk "my account" ... go to the download link for the strings things... DO NOT left click.. right click "copy shortcut"

open up FDM , and the big "+" icon <click>, it "should have the URL at the top..  then OK.. and it should work fine.. if it's not getting the full connection .. it'll open up another thread.. as it supports resume etc.

Thanks, guys. First upgrade so I really don't know what to expect. I'll definitely have to take a good look at what's in the downloads when the info is available. I'll just anticipate a 15 GB dl. I'm attempting to put it out of my mind until it's here but as I'm sure we all are my mind is wandering to fanciful and meandering daydreams of X2. ;-)
