  • The X2 Suspense Is Killing Me ! (p.6)

I've always kept the old verison on my HD.  Never hurt anything.  And I usually just jumped right in working w/ SONAR new version.  Not w/ X1 - and in fact I told some collegues not to use it to finish up their CD's and such.  One look at it and I knew it was a different beast.  It was not something I wanted to try to finish up a project w/.

X2.  I imagine it will look and feel much the same as X1.  And once they get it out in the real world they will have a bug fix out pretty quick so you can start "using" it in a month or so w/o any great fears.  I never had many problems w/ new SONAR versions, but I use it here at home for  personal stuff - not asking clients to pay me for learning new software and grooming my computer.

This time, tho, I'm going straight to X2.  New computer, virgin hard drive.

Yeah, the longer the developers have with it, the better. Cuz once they push it out the door, I bet they're all gonna crash / sleep / decompress for weeks. :-)

Please don't use the word crash in reference to Sonar X2   That's just asking for trouble

I currently have 8.5.3 and X1d on my system and won't install X2 u til I read reports as to how it's working.
I've only had one bad install experience in over 15 years with Cakewalk. Even though I've preordered X2 I'll be patient.
I wonder whether that will be the case once I get the download.

I'll be installing and using the day it's released.  I'll still have X1 installed, but I doubt I'll need it.

Same here I plan to make sure to have a clone of the OS then if any show stoppers happen I can just go straight back to X1 :) I don't think that will happen though :)

I'm still sat on the fence and so haven't bothered with the pre-order, yet. And the DSF strings carrot isn't up my street at all and I'm not that bothered about being able to download a day early either. So I'm just keeping my eye on things. Not because I think there'll be any problems with X2. I am quite confident that X2 will work straight out of the box with just a few minor patches required over the coming months.

As others have said here and elsewhere, X1 was the big change with the GUI and stuff, and X2, for me, looks much the same as X1, but with a load of extra goodies, the biggest and bestest for me being the development of take/automation lanes and getting rid of those pesky layers.

When I do get X2, and it will not be to long after the release, I will probably get rid of X1 and all the bits and pieces that came with it and do a complete fresh install. I know you can run versions side by side but I've only got a couple of small SSD's for my programs. And since getting X1 a few months ago I've hardly done anything with it other that get to grips with the new interface and experiment a bit with the new synths I recently purchased. So stripping everything back and starting afresh with X2 doesn't sound like too much of a big deal for me.

@ Norrie - Out of curiosity I followed the link to your website and had a look around. I hope you don't mind me saying but you don't half remind me of Neil Peart (you might of heard of him... plays drums for a band called Rush).

Rush are fantastic !

Indeed... I've seen them a few times. Mr Peart is my all time fave drummer as it happens.
