If I upgrade today, I get the strings.  If I wait, I can get a better idea of what I am buying and possibly a discount at a later date, when the bugs are ironed out.

So how do these strings sound?

If you don't have any expensive string library, then you should get this while it is free. It is the best strings sample for Dim Pro. It is worth 149USD retail, so can't compare that to Vienna or East West that cost 5 times more.

The strings will be available until September 30th. Check the strings in the Cake Store.

They're not THAT bad!

Sure, they don't compare to any of the higher end libraries out there, but for use simply as a bed on a typical rock/pop song - nobody will be able to tell the difference once you've tweaked them a bit.

I wouldn't use them for an orchestral type mockup - but that isn't their intended use.

I agree with Musichoo, The key here is if you don't have an extensive and expensive string library then you should get the strings deal. They sound better than anything inside Dimension by default. There is some debate over which library sounds better. I don't have an opinion because I don't own the East West or Vienna,

When I upgraded to X2 I was working on a project that had two different string sections. I replaced those strings with the ones from Symphonic. It made a big difference as they sound a lot better than anything Dimension has by default.

I'm not sure how much cheaper they would make this until end of life. It's already pretty danged cheap. The strings are okay. They're a little TOO clean for my taste but they are certainly usable. I've said it before, they sound like the intro to Game of Thrones. I was hoping for more of a chamber music sound. Maybe with some tweaking I can achieve that.

I have them downloaded but have not installed them and probably never will. I pre-ordered X2 because I really liked what I saw in the webinar and I want X2 on my system as soon as possible.

Will X2 be a show stopper? NO, I have a system image.
Will it have bugs?, probably.
Will they get fixed? mostly.
Do I still want X2 on my system as soon as possible? Yes
Do I want the strings and Dimension Pro on my system? Not really.

So my personal opinion is I would not buy X2 now unless you want/need X2 now. YMMV...

Kind regards,
Rick

I think I might try putting mine through Guitar Rig...

Heh... that could be interesting but I think the Softube Saturation knob might get me a little closer to what I'm looking for personally. However might I recommend you try the Hi White (Hi Watt) sim in GR? I think that would get those strings jumpin'... perhaps like Pete. ;-)
