This has had me quite troubled for a while...

My last update to the sig was when X1a was released and I have not been able to alter it since then...

...and somehow my subscription settings got changed at that same time and I can't fix them because of this issue.

I have a number of links in the sig so I'm guessing the limit (550 characters) reads the actual link and not the display... but I removed a few of them and removed "other" text and I still get the 550limit message and the changes won't get saved...

Any idea what's going on? I find it hard to believe that 6 links and my name are more than 550 characters???

Thanks for any clues...
Keni

i remember having the same problem when I first joined. I think you run into trouble with too much formatting. Delete a few empty lines and see if that works.

There is a 550 limit and it includes all spaces and lines - it get used quick if you have short multiple lines or spaces

The Maillard Reaction
If you delete a link the only practical way to actually flush it from the behind the scenes code seems to be that you must save changes, close the window or tab or at least navigate back out to the main page then go back to your account settings and then add anything you hope to add.

If you don't effectively "flush" the behind the scenes code (where all the actual html is hidden) then you end up with all sorts of stuff in the data base entry that stores the info that is loaded in to the signature table data display.

When this happened to me, I pasted the text into Notepad, deleted it from the signature, exited and saved.  Then went back into editing the signature, pasted the text back in and it saved ok that time.

Links are not length based on what you see, they are length based on the full URL name.
