Does sonar x1 studio come with a de-esser, i was curious if it might of been under a different name in the standard plugins, but if not, what one do you use? that i can download or buy. I was suggested waves de-esser, but heard sonar dont support there plugins.

Plug EQ'ing the faults out just isnt as good imo, so suggestions / help would be appreciated.

In producer there's a de-esser in the VX64 VocalStrip-effect..
I don't know if you can buy this separate..

There are many free VSTs out there though.
I haven't tried these, but they've got a de-esser called SpitFissh

Tell us what you think of it, if you try it :)

Spitfish is Ok, but it's only 32 bit, or so I believe.

One of the best De-esser is the: BT DEESSER DS-2S

But you should buy the whole bundle, all Nomad stuff is just great.

Izotope Alloy is also good

 and SPL.

A de-esser is a fancy name for a compressor. Itas works in the 3k to 6k range

Any compressors can be set up and used as a de-esser. Just set the attack to a really fast msec time and then patch the side chain as the trigger for the processor.

After that,  you adjust the comprersssors threshold so the gain reduction will start starts when there is a transient problem.

The de-esser in the VX64 works good.
It seems to be more than just a high-pass side-chained compressor.
It seems to lower the sibilance while preserving the dynamic of the sibilance.

I wish they would make only the VX64 de-esser as a stand-alone for ProChannel or VST

I'm with Freddie on this one.  I've tried a bunch of de-essers including Waves (whose plugins work fine in Sonar, Nell!), and the Nomad Blue Tubes de-esser worked the best for me.  Left a smooth, natural vocal sound minus the excess sibilance.

Nomad has free demo versions of all their stuff, so anyone interested can try them for themselves.  I don't think everything in the bundle is a must-have, but there are several underrated gems, including their Pultec emu and Magnetic tape sim.

Cheers,
