So I got my bass sounding pretty slick thanks to the suggestions in the bass thread a few weeks ago but as always with bass it has a lot of volume issues. The higher notes stand out far more than the lower ones and some of my picking was a bit harder at points making them stand out too much. What plug should I be looking at to get everything a little more even? Cheers.

Thanks, jb101 but I actually already have that on the tracks. It has made a drastic improvement to the overall sound and clarity but it still has some serious volume spikes. I was thinking maybe the fancy tube leveler thingy might help. Mind you I haven't added anything to the bus yet so I'll keep fiddling with it and maybe the PC76 there can reign it in a bit. I was also curious about the "normalize" feature but I'm a little intimidated by it and am not quite sure what it's gonna do. Cheers.

@scook... urm, yeah I probably will if it comes down to it but I was hoping a plug might do a faster and better job. I also would have to apply it to all three of the cloned tracks and I'm not sure if X1 allows the automation to be copied (as that seems to be being touted as a new feature in X2). Can I link the tracks and have any volume edits apply to all three? BTW... I really appreciate all you've done for me, man. You've nudge me in the right direction many many times now and it has helped a lot. I owe you many beers. ;-)

i find a chorus pedal(vst) or sometimes like a modulator really brings the bass out of the mix and keeps it at a stable rate and it prevents the bass from fighting w/other instruments for space in the spectrum.

When I need to apply the same thing to multiple tracks I first think, can I run the tracks though a buss? I think X2 fixes alot of issues with copying automation.

These are all going to a bass bus but I don't think I'm quite good enough yet to do real time automation edits with the fader. Is there anyway to get at a waveform from the bus with a bounce or export? Anyway it's not really a big deal. This is kind of a throwaway tune but I'm trying to absorb as much knowledge as I can before I start working on putting together some real albums. Cheers.

I rarely work in realtime with envelops. Turn the waveform preview on in the buss (button the the right of the solo button), horizontal zoom in/out as needed (I used the little magnifying glasses at bottom right)
