It would be nice to hear the reason why from cakewalk on this forum.

To be a dissenting voice: I think the colors are neutral, subdued, and totally acceptable. It has never crossed my mind to change the color palette and I generally like tweaking those sorts of things.

I'm curious - do any of the large-format console manufacturers offer custom color options?

hey BCnSTL-
not really... but car companies do!

My vintage Amek console is gray... and I love it anyway. But he's not on TV! Don't ya think that film and video Colorists have good paying work in Hollywood for a reason?

There's a place for color choice. For me, it's mostly about legibility in the control room from a distance. And various shades of gray are not the easiest to see through for exact definition. It's cloudy, and lacks contrast. Just me- wouldn't want to force it on you for anything.

There are significant studies that show a color scheme smilar to that on X1 provides the least eyestrain for use over extended periods... so in that respect cake did a great job..

if folks want color choices fine.. but i can also respect cakes decision not to implement it if a) they think it dilutes a brand recognition or b) its a lot of time and effort vs adding features or c) its a low priority vs other user requests..

I actually prefer the overall look of X1 over 8.5.  But I also realise that color is completely subjective, so here's to slowly bringing back some customization!

And if I had a choice, at the top of my list would definitely be this:
I want to be able to group sections of tracks and markers with colors. PT has the right idea around workflow on this one!

I agree.  I like X1's color scheme and I think it's a huge improvement over previous versions, although I still prefer PT's.  That said, I'm all for custom colors for those who want/need it.

Your joking right? X1 was totally unusable until Panup made mods to change the colors. All the grey did was give me a huge migrane. I don't know about you but I don't like to stare at a light. To the other point, It can't be that hard to offer color options if Panup made those mods making so I can even use X1.

We need colors back! Plain and simple.

PT much better colour custom.  I love grouping console track colours.  Even softsynth tracks in X1 are very poorly displayed.  Almost cheap.

Common Cake...  make it right!  I still love ya.

It is interesting that ever since X1 so many of the active forum members have so vocally complained about losing color customization and so ardently asked to have it back and still...it ain't happenin.  I'd just like to know definitively from a Baker who knows why on earth this useful feature had to be removed and why it cannot be brought back.  Would it be that much of a programing challenge?  Because it seems it is definitely a sore point with many long time users.
+1000.  And the fact that Panu's mods work seems to indicate that color customization can be done in the X1 and presumably X2 products.  So the fact that Cakewalk apparently hasn't returned the color customiation options is not only a mystery, but one that is unintelligible.  Well said yoropal!
