  • Plugin Manager missing from Tools menu in 64-bit Sonar

I have been experimenting with 64-bit Windows 7 on a separate partition on my DAW PC.  After verifying that 32-bit Sonar 7PE works ok on this platform, I tried installing the 64-bit version.  I omitted all the plugins when installing 64-bit Sonar, as they are already present from the 32-bit installation.  Next I went to launch Plugin Manager, but found it to be missing from the menu options.  Bizarre!

Question: is there a separate 64-bit version of Plugin Manager, or can the 32-bit version be invoked from 64-bit SONAR? Look in the Shared Utilities folder; the 32-bit version is called PluginManager.exe. Do you have an executable called something like PluginManagerx64.exe?

Yes.  It has the same filename, i.e. PluginManager.exe, but a larger filesize and an earlier timestamp.

So the 32- and 64-bit versions of PluginManager.exe have the same filename, just installed into different folders? I'm asking because I don't have 64-bit SONAR installed here.

Next question would be where the menu information is stored in the registry. I'm guessing if there is a separate 64-bit plugin manager the tools menu isn't in the same place as for the 32-bit version, where the path is HKLM\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu. Is there an entry there for the plugin manager?

I won't get the opportunity to check this today.  Hopefully tomorrow.

By the way I reinstalled 64-bit Sonar, this time including the effects (but excluding softsynths).  Plugin Manager was still missing from the menu.  After adding all the VST filepaths and re-scanning the plugins (via Global Properties rather than Plugin Manager), all softsynths seem to be available to insert via the Synth Rack.

Under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\Plugin Manager
there is a string
ExePath
with value
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\PluginManager.exe

There are similar entries under HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_USERS too.  There are no entries anywhere with the filepath for the 64-bit version.  Nor are there any more occurrences of "Tools Menu" that are not associated with the 32-bit version.

That would be the path to the 32-bit version, assuming there is a separate 64-bit version.
