The software version disclaimer also shows "Billy Arnell" @ 02m33s in the video.

I met Billy on the net in this forum around 2005, yes thanks to SONAR, and yes his main job atm was around some taxi service. We worked together to a song and exchanged many emails until 2010, and I remember when he told me that he was in the music business in the past - no named nor precise references though.

I also - really sadly - can confirm that the breakout domain had him involved because I used to write him emails to an address of breakout.com (IIRC) domain.

I'm really sorry to tell you such things, I haven't heard from him for while as well, but I honestly thought he was younger than it is seemingly now.

EDIT: I just found a email from him in 2010 which sender is barnell AT breakout.com...

I seem to recall seeing a Sonar video tutorial thingy that Billy had posted on YouTube.  But I can't remember now what it dealt with.  Anyone else remember this?

The Maillard Reaction

I am feeling as if the only good news is that Billy created so much incredibly well crafted music.

It exemplifies the style he works in, yet is also beyond style. It is the work of someone who was in their creative prime. Billy's music sounds complete. It is the work of a master.

What I most admire about Billy and his body of work is that his music speaks for itself and it has a life of it's own.

Billy's music is alive.

You can listen and download all his latest music at his website:

I downloaded everything today and assembled a collection of his mp3s for myself as a personal remembrance of our friend.

best regards,
mike

:(

The last thread Billy started on these boards was to send his prayers to a musician (Robin Gibb) struggling w/ cancer. As the thread evolved, you could see a man willing to focus on the positive side of things and how important music was to him.

I feel terribly sad that I never knew Billy was having health issues - not that it would have changed anything of course.

I remember clicking on the link to listen to his music a few years ago, and it just confirmed that the guy was the real deal. He completely fooled me into thinking that he was a 30-something and an expert in this particular genre. Now I realize that this was the tip of the iceberg, and that the music I've heard is probably just one of the genres through which he expressed his talent.

Both incredibly sad and inspiring.

Very sad indeed. I met Billy in person on a few occasions (NAMM etc) and had a fair amount of electronic discourse over the years. A genuine and honorable person who always seemed kind, fair, and compassionate.

Thanks for the tunes Billy. Keep 'em entertained. R.I.P.

A big +1 .

I've been listening to his songs since Mike posted the link - thanks, Mike - and now remember just how good he was at doing this, and how consistent the overall quality was.  And just to make things even weirder, one tune started that sounded familiar so I went back to the webste to look at the song... # 7 - "A time to go".

Just hoping he could write a post and say: "I'm alive and well, I've just been on a great holiday"

Well, I guess I can confirm what we've all dreaded hearing.  As I mentioned earlier, I emailed the guy who wrote the eulogy on the youtube vid and he got back to me to confirm that, yes, it is the same Billy.

unfortunately, this is the Billy Arnell you speak of. my father had been friends with him since the 80s I believe. my dad did computer programing for Billy's company, Break Out Technologies. Billy died from cancer that moved into his brain and we attended a life celebration for Billy back in early to mid July (I can't remember the exact date, but it was a Saturday that we all got together in a bar in Manhattan near Billy's apartment for the celebration).

Sad day for the Cakewalk community.
