True, but the difference between a good mix and a crappy mix never comes down to just the hi-hat level, or the reverb setting, or the type of compressor.
More likely, the hats are 6db too loud, the vocal is 3db too quiet, the bass and kick are masking each other, the output is clipped and the whole thing's awash in reverb. No single detail is likely to be a deal-breaker, but failing to attend to every detail is a recipe for failure.
