Hi,
    I am new to Sonar never used it before, but i have just bought Sonar X1 essentials i am going to upgrade as i have a code for Sonar X2 and then i will further upgrade if the software seems right to the producer pack or maybe studio pack not sure yet.
 
I am going to have a read through the forums about the software but i would like to ask a few questions basically   i have 25GB of sounds that i would like to add to the library when i bought i checked to make sure they were the same khz as sonar and other DAWS and they are WAV. files so they should work but have no idea how to get them into sonar, i have tried but with no success.
My next questions is i have an edirol PCR-500 but i cannot find the instructions or box so im guessing i binned them anyone know how to connect the pcr-500 to sonar X1 or anyone got any links to videos or anything thats shows you step by step?
any help would be appreciated.
 
also is it possible to make music just  by using sounds on a piano roll so i could make my own loops/patterns on my keyboard as i can't seem to get a piano roll to appear is it because i have not connected my keyboard probably.
 
the software only arrived this morning so i have only played with the software for about an hour and half this morning before i had to go work so i was half a sleep at the time but i am intent on getting the full use out of this software.
also i have another software beat thang its a drum machine technically will i be able to import and export my projects between both softwares?

To get the PCR-500 connected. Plug it in via USB without Sonar open and wait for the drivers to install.

Then open Sonar, press P to open the preferences and go to MIDI--->Devices. Make sure the drivers for the PCR are checked. Close preferences.

You should then see the PCR available as an input into Sonar within a MIDI track. To open the PRC make sure a MIDI track is in focus and then press Alt+3. That will open a PRV in the multidock. You can enlarge/reduce that by pressing Shift+D and show/hide it by pressing D.

I have the same Midi controller and it works great in Sonar. First make sure you have the proper drivers and install those. Then install the editor. This thing can come in handy at times. You can find this stuff here.

If you are running Windows 7 use the editor for vista. (It works in windows 7)

Now that you have it installed you will need to set it up in Sonar. Plug in your 500 via USB and then start Sonar.  Just hit the keyboard short cut P. That brings up the preferences window.

In the preference window under midi click on devices.

You should now see your midi controller listed. Click it on under inputs by clicking in the box to get a checkmark

In the output box click on your controller only and click off everything else. Now click move this device to the top.

That is it your controller is now set up for use in Sonar. You may want to set up the act controller functions next. To do this just click in control Surfaces. Cakewalk has videos that will show you this process in the cakewalk university section.
