Another test per say- I just got through playing TH2 side by side with my HD Pro. Both patches were "similar" in nature, which is to say that they were both built by me, with both a growl and breakup types of blues tone. I would really hate to have to choose between which one I liked better right now. Both reacted to my playing styles and both allowed changes when I backed off the volume or dug into the strings. Both were very toneful. Now add this info into the equation - One is a Flagship model piece of hardware, and one is just software only... Yea I know the hardware is able to create lots of other tones and it is worthy of attention.  Im not saying I dont like the HD Pro, cause I do. And the HD Pro I have had for a while,  and know how to set up. But the TH2 Ive only had a few days. Im still knob dickin with it. I havent even been thru very many of the presets yet. damn it sounds good... fyi- Listening to the demo's is not quite the same as DLing and playing thru it. Feel the beast roar and then get to pet it I say. Then you will know its true nature. I love the tones this software thingy is able to create much more compared to others I own including GR5 and Ampitube 3.  As always YMMV...

I feel the same way pretty much as a HD500 owner. They are both capable of good tones. Right now I'm liking TH2 for the extra cabs and mics. They are far more adjustable than my HD500, plus it has the ability to load IRs. I'm glad I have both. I think I'll wait and see whats in TH2 Sonar before I buy the full version. I don't need a lot of those heads, cabs and effects...

+1 I think that is the smart money play

I just want to be sure about this; so I will ask:  Can TH2 inport IR Responses (like those from Rewirez)?  This article ( http://live4guitar.com/article/overloud-th2-the-future-of-intelligent-guitar) indicates that it can, but I would like to hear from someone on this forum who knows this to be the case.

If the SONAR version includes the ability to load custom IRs I'll let you know.

This is from the TH2 Manual

The Cabinet IR module

The Cabinet IR is a custom module allowing users to load preset IRs or to import their own IRs.
First of all, IR stands for Impulse Response, which is a particular technique allowing for the „sampling‟ of the acoustic response of a real cabinet (or any linear acoustic system like room reverbs) through a technique called Convolution. This „sample‟, once captured and deconvoluted, can be applied to your signal chain in TH2 thanks to this module.

Find more information on Impulse Responses and Convolution here:

Import IR
TH2 accepts WAV files as sources, with any resolution (best is 24 bit or 32 bit floating) and sample rate. The Cabinet IR module is mono, meaning that it will accept only mono IR (each cabinet speaker is mono by defini-tion).

A useful source for custom cabinet IRs is:

http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/viewforum.php?f=32

Hit „Import IR‟.
Select either one of the already available groups or click on „New group…‟.
The OS file management window opens up.
Dive to the place your IR(s) is (are) placed.
Select it or shift-select them.
IRs are loaded, automatically trimmed, maximized, DC offset, phase-regulated, analyzed, converted and co-pied to TH2 own internal file directory.

The Cabinet IR panel features and con-trols

Dual IR
: you can load up to two different Impulse Responses (Cab-1 and Cab-2) either coming from totally different cabinets or from the same cabinet with different set-tings, positioning or mic choice.

Invert Phase
: inverts or reverses the phase of the se-lected IR for augmented phase-cancellation effect when balancing two different IRs.

Balance:
balances the relative level of Cab-1 and Cab-2.

Power:
bypasses or activates the Cabinet IR module.

Accuracy:
sets the overall accuracy of the IR in the lowest frequencies (sub 80 hz). Usually Low (L) is good for CPU overhead, un-less you need a very faithful and deep bass response, then choose either Mid (M) or High (H).

Filters:
apply a steep hi-pass and/or low-pass filter to the cabinet sound to get rid of an-noying frequencies.

Delay:
sets a delay in hundreds of milliseconds between the two IRs, emulating different distances of the virtual mics from the speakers, thus introducing lots of comb-filtering. Drag to the left to delay Cab

Thanks Marcus and Scook!

I played with the demo and read that section of the manual, but I was having trouble finding the "import IR" button.  I was looking in the wrong cab.  I found it in the "cabinet IR" cab, but the "import IR" button was grayed out; then I remember reading earlier in this or another thread that the feature was grayed out in the demo, but available in the activated full version.  I just could not find the import feature and was looking in the wrong place.  So, thanks for replying, for the info, and for helping me to to look again a little more closer.

Thank you Thatastrat

That answered a ton of questions. There are some great things in Sonars version, here are all the amps included in the Sonar version,

The TH2 Amp contains eight amps modeled after some of the most classic sought after amps:
Rock 900 (UK)
Top30
SloDrive
Darkface 65
Modern
Bassface ’59
Rock ’64
Overloud Custom
THD UniValve
Randall T2

Here are all the cabinets

4×12 Vintage (UK)
2×12 Top30 (UK)
4×12 England (UK)
2×12 OB Darkface ’65 (US)
4×12 Modern (US)
4×12 HeaVy51 (US)
4×12 Green (UK)
4×10 OB Tweed ’59 (US)
4×12 Green (UK)

Notice that the cabinet that allows for IR is not included. I don't think IR is a function in cakewalks version. This alone is worth the upgrade for me. Would someone from Cakewalk please correct me if I am wrong. there are also no Brunetti amps. Only the full version has those. I really liked those models. This information is according to this blog link provided by Thatastrat.

I am thankful that cakewalk included a lite version of TH2 in X2. If it were not for that then I would not have known about it. This confirms to me that the full version was worth the price of admission. I am glad I purchased it, and I am thankful for the discount for being a cakewalk customer because this thing really sells for about $199.00

That blog isn't talking about the Producer version. I don't know if there is a difference or not. It does say you can load IRs.
