It's ok, it's nothing special but it's ok.

I agree - I have the DCAM and only used it briefly after dl'ing.

A different type of compressor, but worth mentioning is the DC1A. I like it better than PC2A for vox which I also I think is great. I need to spring for the DC8C if for no other reason than show Klanghelm some support. The DC1A usually finds its' way to all of the vox and acoustic tracks. IMHO he hit a home run with that one.

FreeComp is a pretty good comp. It was based on code originally developed for BFD2 by Andy Simper (now of Cytomic fame) and is an SSL bus comp model, so in short: you're essentially looking at a variation on The Glue. If you're looking for an SSL style bus comp, this is free. Unless you have your SSL bus compressor (or buss compressor as they say across the pond) duties covered with something like The Glue or Duende, then you should jump all over this one.

That's interesting - I wasn't aware of its heritage and haven't trid using it as a buss comp, I've only tried it on tracks.

It's mainly intended to be used as a buss comp (SSL type) as others have mentioned. Not bad, but, as w/ many emulations, my trusty old bundled compressor does an even better job at emulating the behavior, w/ the added benefit of tweakability. I've downloaded it, tried it and forgot about it.

Mind you, I've never worked on an actual SSL board, so I couldn't tell how close it comes. What I can tell you though is that SSL's own Duende Bus Comp did something that I had a hard time approximating w/ my usual comp. Waves' SSL sounded rather good too, but the difference wasn't as drastic as w/ Duende.

I also own Native Instruments' Solid Mix, and once more, I don't feel the bus comp gives me anything I couldn't do w/ my go-to comp. I've heard good things about The Glue, but that one didn't win me over either. So I'll keep on using my bundled comp until I can justify the expense and grab Duende or Waves.

Compression, when used properly is a subtle effect.  Wait--  Hold on:  All effects when used properly are subtle effects.

The Sonitus FX are, "after all these years," some of the best around.  A testament to the folk, who originally developed them.

However..

As far as this D-Cam Free Comp goes..  pfft..  I've bought the whole payware pack at this point.  I hear something cool, and something different about them.   Something I really like..   And what I hear from this pack..  I do not hear in Sonitus, or PSP Audioware, or NomadFactory..   

However..  If you have more compressors than I, if your kit is bigger than mine, you probably do not need, "another pack of fx."

  I wanted to buy these Fxpansion DCam dynamics and add to my collection...  I think this is a great fx pack, and I am getting a whole new dimension to my sound, that was not there before. 

The envelope shaper will do things no other transient shaper I've got can do.    Infact, I've been searching, and searching my softwares for months; to create a certain type of drum sound, that I have been after, and I achieved it today!!!!!!!!!!!!   WIth the envelope shaper.

I've tried, P64 perc strip, and other transient shapers, and lo-fi gizmos, but nothing has give me what I wanted...

I would say, "the d-cam circuit modelling is working now."  

I might buy the d-cam synth squad..  I dunno..  last time I demo'd them..  "still using too much cpu."  but one more new computer cycle, and I might get em..  by then they will be, "good and old," and not too many will be using em anymore anyway  lol
