  • MIDI Track Arpeggiator Swing Knob vs Step Sequencer Swing Knob

When creating drum patterns, I sometimes use the "swing knob" on the step sequencer, and it gives me what I want. It adds "swing". Nice.

Sometimes, I use the Piano Roll to create drum sections and would like to add swing to that. I was hoping to use the swing knob on the MIDI track arpeggiator, but it doesn't seem to do the same thing, however, I've just starting experimenting with the arpeggiator. I didn't know it was there 'til recently. I turn on the power in the arpeggiator, (next to the "Latch" button), and the arpeggiator "adds beats". I can't figure out what it's doing, but my main question is, is their a way to just add swing in the piano roll view like the step sequencer does.

I did read about the arpeggiator in the X1 Ref manual and see that what I'm trying to do is not the specific intent of the arpeggiator, but I was hoping I could use it.

If I knew how to write "swing" in standard notation, I would do that (or the equivalent of that in the Piano Roll view) but I never go past reading "one e and uh two e and uh"

Anyone have some input?

Thanks,
Sam

There is a midi quantize effect (non-destructive plugin) that can do swing.
