Is there a way to add measures/time to the beginning of a project that has frozen tracks without losing their new positions if you unfreeze them?

if you still have the midi tracks and move them also,  you should be fine,

What about freezing audio tracks (not instrument tracks)

Because, Its frozen in time. When it was frozen, you didnt have the extra measuires there yet. So, when you unfeeze it, it goes back to that point in time to when you froze it.   When you froze it, there where no extra measures...  Do you get it?

What CJ Said.......

No really,  If you freeze a softsynth it has midi data associated with it.  If you add time/measures and move everything, the midi data included,  when you unfreeze the synth all your midi data should be in the new correct place. So you should be able to edit your softsynth in it's new place.

I freeze audio all the time due to UAD's awesome underpowered cards. (I'm not sarcastic, they are awesome plugs but underpowered cards). I understand why freezing/unfreezing works... but I also hate having to need to add an intro to a song with 20+ frozen audio tracks and then having to manually write down the new start time.

I love Sonar, not a troll, just was hoping there was an easier way.

Fooman, instead of freezing it, just bounce the synth to audio and archive your midi tracks with soft synth. Audio tracks do not take up CPU and you can always go back to edit the archived midi tracks, if needed

fooman you may find Process-Apply FX-Audio Effects to be a helpful feature. :-)

Also- if you're freezing synths and want to move the output you can actually copy the frozen audio to a new track using CTRL+SHIFT+drag, and it becomes unfrozen audio. Might save you some headache and time as it's more straightforward moving things that aren't frozen.

Peace,

Forget synths, that's easy. I'm with you all on that subject.
But live drums... guitars recorded through mics, bass guitar, 15 vocal tracks, etc.

These are the things I don't want to go through and make note of before adding in 4 bars at some point within a project. No synths, just straight up audio tracks I've frozen.

If you're wanting to insert measures in the middle of an existing audio clip, you'll have to unfreeze them first, then split ALL clips, then insert your extra measures.

But, tell us again, why exactly are you freezing audio tracks?
