I recently upgraded from Sonar 6 to X1c.  I love X1 but noticed snap to grid stopped working (in both my 64-bit and 32-bit installations).  Initially it was intermittent (effecting only certain projects) but now snap to grid does not work with ANY of my projects.  I triple checked my snap settings (Mode:  Move To; Magnetic Strength: Off; made sure snap is turned on).  I do not use screen sets, but I checked to make sure none were locked.  I am only using about 1/3 of my 8 GB RAM.
What happened?  How can I fix it?  Sonar is pretty useless if snap to grid doesn’t work.
Thanks!

Sounds like you've checked most of the usual suspects but there must be something you are missing. If the snap was not working at all there'd be loads of posts about it.

Is the indicator in the control bar lighting as if it is working? Also just in case be aware that the snap in the PRV won't work unless the main snap is on. It's also worth checking you haven't got something like snap to MIDI landmarks switched on, that could give the impression it's not working as well under the right conditions. There's an indicator in the control bar snap module.

Try a different screenset just to see if there's corruption of some sort in the one you are currently using.

Is it every project? Try loading from a different template as well in case your usual template is corrupt.

Thanks FastBikerBoy.  I tried everything you suggested but the problem seems to get stranger and stranger.  The only way I can get snap to work is if I load a new standardized template with no data (“Normal”, “16 Track Audio”, etc.).  The snap settings initially work.  But later when I start to do some recording and editing, at some point the snap settings just stop working, yet for at least one project they continue to work.  Also, if I open up my older projects created in Sonar 6, the snap settings don’t work.  Snap worked just fine before in all of my 80+ projects created in Sonar 6, but not in X1.

Did you install the latest quick fix? Snap didn't work in the PRV when using drum maps. The latest quick fix addressed that.

I installed the latest quick fix (ProducerX1QuickFix_b326.exe) and it made no difference.  I can't even get the grid to work in track view.  This is pretty serious, as I can't do any editing in Sonar until this gets fixed.  Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Do you have snap on?

Is it on snap to or snap by?

You can turn snap on and off. I have it bound to the n key on my keyboard. I cannot remember the default snap on/off key bind if there is one.

Of course magnetic strength off is the best setting for hard snapping.

Snap is on.  Snap is to (not by)  Magnetic strength off.   Landmarks turned off.  I checked screen sets.  Installed latest quick fix.  Checked all this multiple times.  Snap still does not work.

Still dead in the water until this gets fixed.  Any additional ideas greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

I don't often concede defeat but given that it still isn't working and you've exhausted the usual causes I'd contact support, sounds like it might be an installation issue or something along those lines.

I've got the same exact problem here. Snap just STOPPED working. It is on. It is set to a normal value (snap to: measure) Magnetic Strength is OFF. What's up with this? I'm confused enough by all the ways that settings for PRV and TRACK VIEW are no longer shared, but this is just bizarre. -m@

Snap To Grid stopped working for me yesterday and I didn't understand it, so I searched and searched for answers without satisfaction.  I found this thread and I started typing this message looking for help, but while documenting my issues, I stumbled on the answer and I feel so dumb!!

For me, the solution to the problem didn't have anything to do with magnetic strength being on or off (that feature can be helpful, IMHO) or being confused about the relationship of the main Snap To Grid function versus the special one in Piano Roll View.  Nor did it have anything to do with those little buttons for "Snap To MIDI Landmarks", etc.  The solution was that I didn't realize I had accidentally activated the "Absolute Time Snap" button under the "Musical Time Snap" button.  I mistakenly believed that it was normal for it to be turned on when "Snap To Grid" is activated, when in fact I was trying to use only the Musical Time Snap option.

So again, for anyone who suddenly finds that Snap To Grid no longer works for them, just make sure that when you activate Snap To Grid in the main Control Bar, you only allow for the option on the top right to be active also: the one for "Musical Time Snap =".  Later, you might decide to use the other options below the top option, but at that time, you'll probably study up on those options and use them on purpose rather than accidentally & mindlessly like me.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Allen
