how are you guys "exiting" sonar? is there any difference if you quit via the file menu (File, Exit), versus clicking the "X" top-right to close the app window?

I get the error , before I even attempt any exit. It gives me an error at the end of the Bundle save.

I used to be plagued by this in Sonar X1
If I clicked the Red X Sonar would hang on my drivers. If I used file menu, I could restart right away.
I brought it up here in the forums but was told it made no difference. However those problems magically disappeared in an X1 update.

I consistently get such error , when I save a CWP to a Bundle file. I get an error at the very end when Sonar exits; just prior to confirming that it went well. I do however get a CWB file which can be opened and modified. I always wondered if this error has any consequences.

Is it only when saving as .BUN file ?
Also: Next time it happens save a screenshot of the error and/or look in event viewer for some indication of the problem.

Just wondering... do those of you that are having this crash have the "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player" installed?  Here's why I ask:

I recently installed the "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player".  Shortly after that, I discovered that, typically, when I exited Sonar, it would crash.  I also discovered that I could no longer have Sonar "share" the Windows audio devices with other programs like Media Player.  I lived with the issues for about a week until I had time to investigate.

To investigate, I systematically went back to daily "backups" of my system and restored and tested until the issue went away.  What I found was, that the day that I installed "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player" was the day that the issue became apparent.

So I restored to that day (that Sonar exited without a crash and that Sonar could Windows audio devices) and individually installed or updated each software component that I had put on the system since that day, testing after each component was installed or updated.  (There weren't many, only 5.)  What I observed was that as soon as I installed the "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player", my system started to exhibit the symptoms I describe above.  Upon further investigation, I observed that the Aria Audio Engine appeared to make changes to Windows audio configuration causing me to not be able to share audio drivers.

What was very troubling to me was that, even if I uninstalled the "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player" (and the Aria Audio Engine), the symptoms would not be eliminated.  So to permanently remedy the issues, I simply restored to before I installed "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player" and applied all updates excluding "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player".  Unfortunately "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player" is no longer on my system.

I should say that I don't necessarily believe that "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player" alone is the cause of these issues.  It's most likely the synergistic effect of some Windows Update or other software component along with "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player" that caused the symptoms I was seeing.  I was simply able to isolate one of the contributing factors that were causing the symptoms on my system, which happened to be "sforzando :: Free SFZ Player".

Hope this helps more than confuse,
Paul

On a dual-monitor system, I have the main screen stretching across both monitors with TV on the left and CV on the right.

Clicking the close (X) in the TV window should close the project, leaving SPLAT running and ready to open a different project.

As the project that was open starts to close, Sonar crashes.

Windows is fine, and appears to not even flinch.

No, I do not have that loaded - or installed.

ok, so that's a "closing project" issue, rather than an "exiting sonar" issue, although of course they could be related

have you tried "File, Close" from the menu rather than the "X" in the GUI, any difference?

it's strange that plugins are changing system-wide settings!
