X2 will make the FX bin redundant for me personally, can't wait to get it installed!

What a totally enjoyable thread!  Thanks for the entertainment gents!

The trivial changes that Panup suggested requires all of about 10 - 15 minutes to impliment.  Further, there is little need to test it.  And finally, CW is already working on a patch for Sonar X2.  That has been the MO for CW for years.

They catch things before the product is sent out for replication, but they have no time to fix them before the deadline so shortly after Sonar X2 is released, there is a patch.

I am all for Panup's suggestions.

Q: How many CW forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Don't know becuase they are always bickering about something and never get around to it.

..and some wouldn't pay for a new one if it didn't have VST3

Guilty. But in my defence I was bored and drunk.

I like panup's idea too- I would like the hover-over magnification even more than the fx bin widening

Hmmmm let me see if I got this right.... in SONAR X2, FX-Chains outside of PC can now be dropped in PC. Watch Webinar @ 0:50:00 (or there-abouts)

Overall with SONAR X2 other enhancements; smart tool, grid and such once setup to your preferred workflow; all edits (including in the PRV) can be done much more  freely, easier, quicker, faster, faster, sexier, yes, yes, YES compared to X1.

{ahem} Well I guess those are improvements to get excited about and that's just the tip of it as I haven't even touched on other areas yet. {oh baby}

It would seem that if PC will now accept VSTs, that the effects bin may be on it's way out.
That would be a shame.

I don't think they'll take it away. Especially since there's no PC in Studio and Essential.

I think they'll just include everything and let the user decide what he/she likes best, as usual :)

Hey Panu, are we talking console strip FX bin? Wouldn't a wider FX bin mean a wider console strip? I'd like to see the console strips a bit thinner like the old Sonar had so we can see more of them on screen.

The new console FX bin is already bigger than the old one. Why do some think it's smaller? Because the old Sonar used smaller text and didn't have that big ON/OFF switch. If they went back to the smaller font we'd see more of the name there.

You can also make the FX bin as wide as you want in Track View and dock them in multidock.

...

I do think your alternative fix makes sense, though, and would be a lot easier to add.

Hi soens,

> You can also make the FX bin as wide as you want in Track View and dock them in multidock. I was referring to Track View's FX bin.
It is not possible to widen FX bin in Track View: you can make header pane 1900 pixels wide but FX bin width is always around 94 pixels. Even a few more pixels would allow many plugin names to be shown enough or completely.

In Console View it may be not as practical to make strips wider but the suggested alternative tooltip feature would be useful.

Here is an example of the current Track View behavior (don't mind colors, they're my own mod): I just purchased FabFilter Total Bundle. Looking at the FX bin I can immediately see there are FabFilter plugins but plugin name is truncated just before the most informative part of the name begins :-(.
30 more pixels for FX bin width would improve my and many other users workflow considerably.

Off topic: check the image link for my alternative color scheme... Gradient Volume and Gain controls, black FX bin background, green FX bin text and ON/OFF buttons, blue selected track background... Color customization rules! ;-)
