  • Take Lanes - What do you think?

The CakeTV Live Webinar barely touched on this.  Layers were a pain for sure.

Do you think take lanes will mean better comping tools?  There is a youtube video showing how comping works in Cubase 6.5 and it looks SO easy to build a composite take.  With Sonar, I am cutting and pasting to a new track all the time.

Any speculation?

No speculation.
BUT, I am hoping it is a workflow improvement.

I see take lanes is a big (major?) selling point, but not much was shown on the webinar. Why wouldn't they use it?

I don't know about anyone else, but what I would like to be able to do is to have all my takes stay in the order in which they were recorded, first on top, last on bottom. Then allow me to create/insert a layer in that same track (on top or on the bottom) and comp to that new layer and keep all takes in their original order.

I love them and don't even know if they're buggy yet.
But I am a big fan of the idea.

This was the selling point on X2 for me.

The Maillard Reaction

I have asked about how input echo monitoring will work with Take Lanes.

There was a statement made by Cakewalk that "Take lanes exist outside the track".

My immediate reaction to that explanation was to inquire if everything is still routed thru the tracks FX bin so as to facilitate full featured input echo monitoring through my favorite third party VST efx.

I am still hoping to get an answer.

best regards,

Good question.  I hope they do a video or give us a detailed explanation of how the take lanes work.

This is exactly why I want to be able to comp in the same track that I do my takes in!!

I don't want to jump the gun here, but I can't help but think...

Take lanes is one big reason I got X2! I am a BIG fan of that idea!! Let's hope it's implemented correctly.

hopefully you can R click on a take and audition it with FX.

I really dislike the way takes are handled in X1 so this is bound to be better. I agree that the takes should stay in order instead of flopping around all over the place. I mean what's up with that? Layers hidden: Last take goes on top, first take goes on the bottom. Layers shown: Same thing. It just doesn't make sense the way it is right now.

I can get by just fine with X1's workflow, but being able to open up the automation lanes in their own track (hopefully with a mapped keybinding) will make my life much easier and make me press CTRL+Z less haha.
I am super jazzed for X2. So many whiners on Gearslutz and facebook about really trivial things, but X2 looks to have workflow enhancements. Well worth $100 IMO.

I also wonder about how auto-crossfades are handled while watching the webinar. Maybe a blog to show us?
