Thanks for that...seems pretty promising...like you, the lack of a noise gate seems a little incomplete considering the amount of stuff they have included a noise gate pretty standard for any application and not that hard to code...but hey whadda ya gonna do?

The upgrade version will operate outside of Sonar in it's own gui. The license allows you to load it on three computers. I am also looking at live applications.

TH2 has a very deep MIDI implementation allowing for very powerful MIDI routings with almost any kind of re-mote MIDI Controller, be it a keyboard, a table-top con-troller or a foot-controller.
All MIDI activity is regulated in the MIDI Bindings prefe-rence panel, accessed by clicking Preferences on the lower-right on the main window.

Once you set your MIDI Bindings preferences, you can save the settings to disk using this section. Hit the plus sign and type a name in the dialog window to add a preset; click on the minus sign to remove a preset from the list.
Program Change recalls internal memory
When deselected, all incoming Program Change mes-sages can be routed to other functions in the MIDI Bind-ings panel.
When this preference is activated, if a Program Change is received by TH2 it routed directly to the internal memory system as described below.
MIDI Bank Change
MIDI Bank change is fully supported: you can select all 999 banks, as well as you can switch between Factory and User Banks.
MIDI Program Change
When you look at the Sound panel of TH2, you can see that Sound numbers are displayed in a SS.V format where SS stands for the Sound number (00 to 12) and V stands for the Variation number (1 to 8).
Quite simply this number (leaving out the dot) represents the MIDI Program Change you have to send remotely in order to select that Variation inside TH2.
As an example, if you want to select Variation 2 in Sound 03 (reading 03.2 on TH2 Sound panel), then you will have to send a MIDI Program Change 032.
How to program MIDI events to control TH2
In the MIDI Bindings panel, each entry is shaped as a button in the Learn columns.
Clicking it will put TH2 in Auto-Learn mode: any mea-ningful incoming MIDI message is directly mapped to the parameter linked to that button.

An alternative way of assigning MIDI events is hand-picking the event type in the Event menu and its num-ber in the # field.

As the guitar is my main instrument I got to say that I would agree with your assessment. I think it is one of the best additions to X2. It is far better than Guitar Rig. The distortion amps sound so real. I can also get feed back when I play through it live. It acts just like an amp in every way. That makes the amp models a little better than Pod farm (which is my main guitar amp sim)
 
However this thing also has all the noise a real amp produces too. It could use a noise gate. I am a bit surprised to find no noise gate device in the effects chain. I can use the one I have from Pod Farm. So far this is the only draw back I found. I have been playing with it all day. I like some of the effects in Pod farm better than some of the ones here.
 
I got the best of both worlds with both programs. If I had to do it all over again I would buy the TH2 upgrade. The extra features are well worth the money. The tones I get from this thing sound sweet.

TH2 Producer will include 2 noise gates.  One "Global" gate, that applies before the chain, so each newly loaded preset gets it.  The second one is the Gate/Expander stompbox.

thanks for that. I have played with it for a few hours. I did not find it, but I have looked for them for a little bit. Then I went back to playing around with the presets.
 
A question though. It seems to me that you would not get much use from a global noise gate that starts before the effects chain. You would probably want that after the effects, amps, cabinets, and mics. That is probably why I did not see it. I was looking in the wrong place. Is there anyway to move the global gate? Still learning the software. Thanks for the correction! and the help.

One way I theorize we could use presets is to create multiple instances and use a foot controller to exclusively solo these tracks with act. or use moving to isolated markers to switch snapshots and enable this to engage looping as you move to the marker.

also how would you guys rate this vs RE Valver? I've been thinking of getting that instead.

I remember way back when I was a kid and I had a guitar and a peavey amp. Revalver is Peavey's amp modler. While I have tried this I would say that it sounds ok. Overloud's TH2 is better. more amp models more effects and more realistic amp sounds.
 
I have been playing with TH2 again today and I am begining to like it more than Pod Farm. The amp models are the key here. I don't think I have heard better distortion amps. I have used Guitar Rig, Pod Farm and Revalver. I am starting to get use to some of the pedal effects that come with this.
 
The more features the higher the learning curve and the longer it takes me to figure it out. I am begining to think that TH2 beats all the other amp modlers hands down. It has 999 factory presets and 999 user presets. One of the things that sets this apart is the 18 mics and the ability to use two mics for one cabinet. you can put them anywhere you want. There are some really great mics to choose from too.
 
So how would I use this live? Well...When you buy the full version you get to license this on 3 computers. This means I can put it on the computer that runs Sonar and I can put it on my lap top as well. I already use my laptop to play music during my breaks. The full version of TH2 will run independent of Sonar in its own GUI.
 
I would load this on my lap top. then I would plug my Pod X3 pro into it via USB. I already use my laptop to program my Pod. I would use the midi functions of the Pod to control the TH2 program and it would play the TH2 presets through my Pod. I have a midi footswitch that plugs into my Pod. I would use that to change presets that I design. Still a lot to work out but I am glad to own the full version.

I have downloaded the demo. I'll give this a good hard play tomorrow and let you all know what I think. I've been using the Line 6 HD500...so I'll see how it compares.

I'm still wondering what the standard TH2 Sonar (without upgrade) will include...In the meantime I got the demo, and so far I'm impressed!
