Ya you will defiantly want to read the help file on using audio snap, it's a bit of a mind twister. But if you follow step by step you'll soon extract that for me it's C3 for Kick. Session drummer uses GM notes. If you get it wrong just drag the bugger to the correct note. The work is afterwards you have to remove false triggers. Like the snare will leak in and this will also be a kick now but at a lower velocity. There are cal scripts ( I think ) to strip these out. I just do it manually cause I'm to dumb to use cal scripts/

@scook... I might but it looks pretty straightforward from I've seen. X2 on the other hand... well there's lots goin' on there. I'm gonna stick to the X1 stuff for now because I'm sure a good hunk of that is gonna stay the same... mainly the effects which is what I'm currently working on learning. There's like a hundred pages or so in the Power Book just going through all the various dealymadoodles so I've got my work cut out for me. Sorry for the threadjack.

when I check out a thread with a question, I always look at the already existing answers to be sure not just  to repeat what's already been said.

no offence, but.. ..am I the only one doing this..?

LOL Sorry, ya I slipped and missed your post. Pretty much duplicate outside of the video being in 8.5 I think.  Just a little different than X1 but same idea.

Though my video was a fast chunked out make, it works for a quick swap of acoustic to midi track/replacement for me in X1 Pro.

yes, had 8 mics going, kick, snare, toms and 2 overheads.  Thanks all for the advise. I am going to try the audio snap first. I like the idea of keeping it all in sonar, session drummer. May use bfd, but session drummer has some pretty good sounds. hate to buy more drum software. to be honest, i bought bfd becuase i did not know of session drummer. Session drummer is very cool and very easy to use!! so I will try that route first. will let post my expereice.  thanks again, this forum ROCKS!!!!!

Seperated like that will make it simple.  I can do an easy step by step for ya if ya want to convert it. If you want PM and I can walk ya through my method on the phone

Melodyne is also very good at creating midi files from audio. Once you get the hang of drum replacement, you'll be lovin' your drum sounds!!

i have been using EZDrummer, i gotta tell you up until i got that i used machines that i never could make them do what i want. some people are great at programming them, i'm not one of them.  total snoresville. the basic EZD runs about $80 then you can get expansion packs that are also not a lot of money. i think the EZD Superior comes with everything, i really have no use for Latin or jazz programs so i just run the "classic". in aperfict world i'd have my drummer playing in my living room however i like living indoors.

Slate Digital Trigger rocks for easy, great sounding drum replacement.

Rocky

I have Slate and Drumagog.

For some reason, Drumagog is more intuitive to me. YMMV.

Drumagog is only 32bit right now. 64bit is being worked on (or so they say). Trigger is 64bit now. Trigger (IIRC) only works with Slate samples (which are good), Drumagog allows you load another VST (i.e. EZDrummer, Superior, BFD2 etc.) albeit in a wonky sort of way, and you can use the kit piece of the loaded VSTi as a replacement .

Also Drumagog has hats replacement which works pretty good. To my knowledge Trigger does not.

Allrighty guys, not sure what the issues was. Yes I did have the SD3 in focus, when I pressed F1, it tried to refresh yet nothing. I did close every window one by one thinking maybe it was hidden and it was not there.  I closed everything out and tried again, same thing happened. I finally rebooted and tried again with success. I printed it to a PDF so i would have it for future.

Once I got past this, I was able to successfully convert a live bass drum to midi bass drum and am extremely pleased with the reults. I used SD3 for the kick and it was awesome. Needed to do the same for the floor tom, however I couldn't find a floor tom that would work for me. So I am going to give it another shot using BFD2. Anyways, I am very impressed with this feature.

A little tip for anyone thinking of doing this. Mic the drums extremly close to the drum head or inside the kick drum, or right next to the cymbals. The Audio snap will find the transients much easier with less editing from you. If you ambient mic, you will need to do some editing. This was my experience. In the future I will just plan to replace the kick. Sounds much better and much more consistent, and in the overall mix you cannot tell it was replaced. Sounds very natural.

Thanks to all for helping me, I almost purchased another product to do this. Very happy I saved the $125. you guys rock!!!

Glad ya got it sorted out.
Im one that believes with this you dont even need a good drum kit.  5 gallon buckets with mics inside will probably achieve a better and easier result to do this. Snap is just hunting for a good signal to apply a transient to.
Im waiting for someone to post a video of actually doing this.  If you have all the sounds you want in a plug, why buy a $3500 kit and $10k worth of mics
