I realise this question has been asked before but I am still searching for a definitive answer...

My Dell Inspiron 6400 (Windows XP) laptop has done sterling service but after 6 years of abuse bits are starting to fall off and now I must replace it. Unfortunately this means I also have to move to Windows 7...

I realise that Sonar 8.3 (I have Producer edition) does not officially support Windows 7 but my question is will it work? I typically only use the Sonitus effects suite (mostly dynamics and EQ) plus the LP64 Multiband and Boost 11. I'm not enthused by the X1 interface and don't really want to pay to upgrade.

Anyone want to share their experiences?

You see that's the kind of definitive answer I like!

About to make the same move myself, also with Sonar Producer 8.3.

Who told you Sonar 8.5 is not for for Windows 7?  Sonar 8.5- 64 bit is possibly the most stable version ever. There's probably 100's of us still happily working away. For me 64 bit made a big improvement. Before that I couldn't use Session drummer as example.

Have had -0- problems with 64 bit Windows 7 and 8.5. Oh... except that one time I had to re install windows 7. That was my fault for dinging around with the file structure.

If you do move to Windows 7 64-bit, keep in mind that you will need a 64-bit driver for your soundcard or it won't work. Unless its really old, you should be able to get one.

Windows 7 is MUCH better than XP so you should be happy to make that move.

Works just fine for me too. I'm running sonar is 32 bit mode because I'm still using 32 bit plugs.

The only plug that doeen't work for me is AnalogX Notepad. Everytime I launch it Sonar will crash.

Don't forget you can install bot the 32 bit and 64 bit versions side by side.
A work around for old plugs that don't work with bit bridge , is open the project in 32 bit and freeze the offending synth or print the offending efx  to the track,  and then continue on in 64 bit.

I have 8.3. not 8.5.
