About to make the same move myself, also with Sonar Producer 8.3.
Should be getting the new lappie tomorrow - will let you know how I get on!

At some point you will have to move to the X1/X2 style so its up to you when you bite the bullet. If you're totally satisfied with Sonar 8, that's fine, but the ProChannel stuff in X1 really kicks it up to the pro level at least one notch or more. I agree it takes some time to get used to it.

Well if 8.3. does turn out to work on Windows 7 then I hopefully won't need make the change for several years yet! If it doesn't I may look at other DAW options anyway. I'm also an FL Studio Signature edition user so only really use Sonar for full band recordings. With FL I get free lifetime updates, where as Cakewalk chose to make 8.5 a chargeable update just months after I purchased 8.3!

There is little difference between 8.3 and 8.5 , just a few bug fixes, Why didn't you do the update?  It's free.

Really? I understood it was a chargeable upgrade. If not, then we can I download it from?

8.5 was NOT a free upgrade from 8, unless you bought during the "buy this version get the next version free" promo. No free upgrade from SONAR ever came as a full set of install disks. I have the 4 DVD set of SONAR 8.5 Producer disks that I bought as the upgrade from 8.

With Cakewalk, and most other software companies, updates are free, upgrades are for pay.

Yeah but I didn't see 8.5 as much of an upgrade from 8.3, indeed I think it is no co-incidence that they are only .2 apart! Anyway, due to Currys / PC World being incompetent I didn't get a new laptop today after all.
