@bob... Oh yeah, they're all still there. I do Save As at critical points. I have done some PC audio stuff in the past but it was all on old gear/software and I was hacking it the whole time. Technically I'm not a complete beginner but I'm going about things like I am because although what I was doing before worked (kind of) it was horribly misguided and wrong. And I find bass players generally have two categories, dudes who play too free and loose and dudes who glue themselves to the guitar parts. People say good drummers are hard to find (which is true enough) but personally I think TRULY good bass players who know when, how and what to do are even more difficult to find. Fortunately I'm pretty good on bass but I'm NOWHERE near as good as I'd like to be so I've got my work cut out for me on that front as well. For metal an rock I'm fine but once I start delving into my blues/jazz/prog tunes I'm in for a challenge.
Hey Yeah,I hear ya,but maybe there are still some lttle gems, that are your style, that are in those older recordings, sometimes a fresh listen can surprise you[and others!]
Yes,I'm still at the complete beginner stage with A LOT of things with ITB recording, but its more to do with computer operation than audio in a way,as a LONG time ago,I did actually get to record in a couple of the best studios in Sydney, but the time spent there was all too brief, and most unfortunately, the Mastering of most/all of those recordings, was done,at the very last minute,by people who obviously didn't "get"what they were hearing, and the "over compression" that's more than MEGA evident,on the eventual compiled CD,was so overwhelmingly destructive of the original tracking, and daily "take home cassettes" from the sessions,it
destroyed my whole enthusiasm for music in general, and not long after,I went into a 20 year hiatus from music completely.
All the while in those old days,I had a Tascam 244 4track,and use to use it furiously, and I used to convince myself,if I just tweaked the "actually quite good parametric EQ" enough, and used the natural "tape compression" I'd get over the "incredibly narrow frequency range",and inherent noise of the indisputable "ultra low grade" audio quality of a cassette!
In one very rare, and bizzarre case though, it actually worked!,and a song was used on 3 different Surf Movies, alongside established artists, whose recordings were ALL done on 24 track Studers et al,it was actually quite hilairious, the maker of the movie just liked the track so much,he didn't seem to realize it was a "cassette 4 track recording".
What was really weird, was another Funk/Metal[ I don't know if you remember, but just prior to Nirvana, when Everybody, thought that "FM" was going to be the Next "Big Thing"?]track, that was NOT used, but ended up being ripped off to a tee,for a prime time television "Comedy Tonight Show" as the shows Theme!,and it was "unmistakable" that it was my song,as even my Mum could hear it immediately!,and in fact She was the person, who first informed me[among others],that I should check it out!
Of course,Nothing could be done,as they changed the second half just enough, that I would have probably lost a copyright infringement court case, and it was a Major Television Show....big money against penniless Bob.
Sorry if I went on a bit,but I need to get this crap out occaisionally.
Cheers
Bob
