A bit stuck here.

I am trying to write a new piece of music that I want to give to my Guitarist as tablature, however, every time I input a chord or note in the Piano roll it shows up as an asterix on the TAB staff.

I'm not a guitarist so was hoping to just input chords in the Piano roll and for them to show as TAB.

A bit puzzled really.  I've read the manual on inputting TAB but it doesn't mention this.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'm suspecting it's out of range for the guitar.

I've just turn on guitar tab (for the first time) in staff view, on a piano left hand part, most notes are ok, but some notes that a too low will turn up as asterisks.

Guitar sounds an octave lower than written music, so transposing it an octave higher should solve the problem.

Edit : or should it be lower.. depending on range.

Because you can play the same note value in multipul places on a guitar neck no program can automaticly generate tab.
There might be a way using a guitar synth.
Your getting * because you need to enter a fret position.
An E chord on a piano is not played like an E chord on a Guitar.

That makes sense but a bit of a shame, I was hoping I could compose in PRV then just print the TAB.

Shucks :-(

It may be easier to write out chord charts. I think you can add guitar chord images in the staff view.....just thinking out loud.

I still think the reason asterisk shows up is due to out of range, I was testing with a bunch of 4 notes chords (all around middle C) and all got translated properly into TAB, but of course, some of the frets combination is impossible to play, such as on on fret 13 combined with fret 4. You may think it's all good till you pass to the guitarist.
