SONAR X1 upgrades are still available at worldwide retailers and the free X2 upgrade still applies through October 31st. We sent out emails telling people the pricing was going to change and it was their last chance to get X1 at the regular price. The offer ended August 31st and we left it up through September 4th. At this point, we are focused on SONAR X2 and will be releasing this month. It's the same reason we don't sell SONAR 8.5.

I think we have really tried hard to be fair to customers and especially early adopters. I would definitely check with your local retailer.

In all fairness (and possibly no one has pointed this out yet) but the verbiage from the upgrade page stated (in bold no less)  -

"Special Offer: Starting August 1 through October 31st, when you purchase SONAR X1 Production Suite, you will get SONAR X2 Producer for free once it becomes available. Take advantage of all the new features in SONAR X1 without having to worry that a new version is just around corner."

clearly implying that if you wanted to upgrade via that path you had until October 31st. That's pretty inarguable. It's still there in Google cache. So I'm sure I wasn't the only one waiting to see what the "early adopter" freebie was going to be and whether it would apply to upgraders (mixed messages were floating around) before deciding.  Not a huge deal but still for next time CW should probably be more clear from the get-go.....

Thanks for chiming in, Andrew, but I was hoping to still be able to get the upgrade to Production Suite (download) for £70 which I think was only available from the Cakewalk store? I don't believe we can get that from any other retailer.

Me too, it looked like it would be available to download from the Cakewalk store until 31 October.  The upgrade does not seem to be available from any of the suppliers on this list:  http://www.cakewalk.com/Dealers/global.aspx/United-Kingdom

Still, I already have most of what is in the Production Suite and I'm not too bothered about the DSF strings so will probably just leave upgrading for a while until an interesting bundle / offer appears next year by which time the early bugs will have been fixed.

I would have taken up the Production Suite offer though, but I was waiting for a reply from Cakewalk Sales to a query I sent via web form. Oh well.

I agree - I pointed this out in a thread last week - it was very misleading.

I fairness to Andrew he did contact me via PM to try and explain their logic, but the fact remains thay we were told one thing and then a few days later told something different.  As for being available via "worldwide retailers" - erm not so in the UK - Roland UK say that you can't get it any more, only via CW, who say contact retailers..............

I would like to think that because of their misleading information that CW will do the decent thing and re-instate the offer for a period of time, so that those who have missed out because they took "Starting August 1 through October 31st" to mean exactly that and not - until sometime in early September-  have a chance to take up the offer that they thought they had plenty of time to do so, but I won't be holding my breath.

If they did that, it would be excellent customer service (and they'd get quite a few immediate upgrade orders that they might not otherwise have got, including one from me).

It's like politics these days - it's not "really" lying if you play the semantics game.  Just use implication type messaging but choose your words carefully so you can fully deny that was the intended interpretation.  I'm waiting for the disclaimer that "we never actually stated in print that it would be available from us - did we?"

While I'm not impacted by this change, I readily admit that I dislike when clarity of message becomes an issue - just tell people when a sale is starting, when it is ending, and where it is available from at the get go.  None of this guessing game about the fine print.

As always individual mileage may vary.

The Cakewalk Store has made the transition to SONAR X2. Every company does this when they transition to a new product. SONAR X1 is still available at retail shops worldwide and for customers purchasing this product (where available), they will be able to get SONAR X2 free. This is how we ensure a smooth transition in versions.

That doesn't mean we will be selling SONAR X1 on our store when SONAR X2 is the current version. When we transitioned to SONAR X1, we stopped selling SONAR 8.5. When we started selling SONAR 8.5, we stopped selling SONAR 8. And so on.
We clearly listen to customers and tried to make a very fair upgrade price with a special early adopter incentive. It's hard to please everyone but we do have to draw a line in the sand and transition products.

I hope you can see how weird it would be for us to be selling SONAR X1 plus free a upgrade, plus also selling SONAR X2 upgrades. It wouldn't make much sense.

I hope you all understand.
