Just about to order X2 when I noticed that the system requirements state Windows 7 or 8, but no mention of Vista. Can anybody let me know whether X2 will actually work with Vista, because if not I won't be upgrading till I upgrade my hardware.

Cheers

Hil I think you will find your existing hardware will run W7 better than it runs vista.
That was the case with me..

None of us know as none of us have X2 yet. If you call cake, they tell i=you its not supported, but that doesn't meant it wont work. They just never tested it on Vista.

You will have to wait until X2 is released and wait for at least 10 vista users to post their responses, so you can get a clear picture

Thanks JD, what I meant was, upgrading to a new PC that already has Windows 7 installed. I'm a bit fearful of upgrading from Vista to WIndows 7 on my current system as Vista works ok with X1 for me

When upgrading your windows, all you need to do is make sure your Mobo has Win 7 drivers and make sure all other software on the pc has win 7 drivers and/or can work in win 7.

Hil I think you will find your existing hardware will run W7 better than it runs vista.

Its the programs in the pc that he needs to deal with

I am with you on not upgrading the O/S until I get new hardware. That will probably be next year and I will go straight to Windows 8 unless it turns out to be a complete turkey.

I can't see the point in upgrading to Win 7 so close to the release of Windows 8.

There is another thread somewhere where some one from Cakewalk said X2 was not tested on Vista, it would probably work but if there were problems you were on your own. Pretty much the same stance as Native Instruments.

I suspect it will work fine, for all the anti-Vista rhetoric Windows 7 is not that different from Vista SP2. I use both, but my DAW is Vista SP2 (64 bit). I look at Win 7 like Vista service pack 3, rebranded to get some upgrade fees and because Microsoft knew if they did not drop the Vista name they would never ween people off XP.

Other Windows 7 only Products.

Native Instruments Komplete 8 - Window 7 only, but works perfectly well on Vista (and even XP by all accounts)
FX Expansion ECO (64 Bit) - Windows 7 only, but its only the installer that has any issues in Vista. Manually extract the 64 Bit DLL and it is good to go.
