  • Do those text links in your posts bug you?

So lately I've noticed certain underlined words in posts that link to other sites, usually having noithing to do with the original context. Not just here but on every web site I go to.

This is down right annoying and frustrating especially when your mouse is anywhere near one of these.
I realize web hosts have to pay the bills but advertizers have reached an all time low. Are they really this desparate?

You can't go anywhere without being bombarded by popups and ads for things you have no interest in at the momnent.
It distracts you from your current train of thought and gets in the way of the task at hand. This is the intention for sure but is worse than the old email junk mail scams that used to load up your IN box of past days. (I finally changed my email to stop it)

When I author a post I own the "rights" to it. Their manipulating it is a form of hijacking and controlling what does not belong to them.

What's next?

Please stop this nonsense!

Great! How do I get rid of them? I don't recall adding anything to my system that way unless it was with one of those freeware downloads I tried once. They're powered by "text enhance".

Nothing is "free". Scan your computer in safe mode with the following programs (download them from CNET or the sites CNET points you to on another computer and toss them on a thumbrive/CD if possible with all definitions updated): Malwarebytes, SpyBot Search and Destroy and as the main antivirus Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. If that doesn't clean up your system get HiJackThis (again you can snag it from CNET), scan your system and submit a report to their forums. Or you could just completely wipe your sytem and start from the last clean restore point you have available. Then... don't download freeware unless you research it all to heck.

Also if you use firefox you can get an addon called NoScript and it will stop that before it borks with things. You can also use AdBlock and add it to your block list or use Ghostery which are both available for Chrome... but really you need to scan the BEEP out of your system.

Skype does this for all phone numbers.

No doubt other software has such helpful behavior.

And, it may be time to use:
 malwarebytes
 superantispyware
 spybot search and destroy
 kaspersky removal tool

I saw the same thing recently when I was on a particular computer (not mine).  It only occurred when I was using the Chrome Browser and not IE or FireFox.

I use IE and only ever see it on a particular UK guitars forum, so I assumed it was a setting done by that forum's owner.  I'll now ask on there if that's so or not.
